oh wow i'm so glad you guys pointed out there was a difference between holly and actual mistletoe! i didn't know that so you've probably just saved me from messing that up in my own future works which would be a shame since real mistletoe is quite pretty in its own right!

 I blame the cultural pervasiveness of holly as a holiday decoration for confusing people about berry color. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant and it’s actually kinda brutal. It became a holiday symbol after Christian appropriation of Yule practices of northern paganism–like most Christmas things actually. 

but people mix those plants up ALL THE TIME! Which is a shame yeah since actual mistletoe is so pretty. And also poisonous!
