Hiei tracks the flight of the retreating birds as they hastily disappear into the foliage, but it is simply the price he pays for making himself known. For abandoning his usual silent vigil.

It is a simple question, with an obvious answer, but Hiei cannot help but ask. After everything that's happened, it is still unnerving to see her on her own, out in the open, where any willing person could approach.

He knows Yukina is not helpless, and it is a relief to know that she is free to live her life as she pleases, now that she is free. But that freedom has already been taken from her once, and the thought that it might happen again still haunts him.

Funny enough it was something that his own mother brought towards his attention. According to someone in her AA-meetings there’s a rumor going around concerning 𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙨..that by itself could mean anything but she also said there have been two deaths thus far within the group. 

Yusuke searched the area of course but couldn’t figure out a damn thing then and he couldn’t figure out the possible source now. Both his arms crossed over his chest as he 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐒 against the wooden seat before he felt an instant cold sensation. Quickly he turned his gaze towards the side and spots Yukina. “Oh, hey there Yukina..didn’t figure you were a ‘go to the park’ type.” Said the former detective as he sat upright once more.

“Mind if I pick your brain over a problem I’m dealin’ with? Would be better if I get a Yokai’s perspective.”

[ Okay first of all how dare you.

[ But in all seriousness, Hiei tries not to think too much about Hina. She existed, but had no part in his life at all. He's not really sure what it would even mean to have a mother, and he doesn't get any positive examples of familial attachment until he meets Kurama.

[ As someone who's so detached from others just in general, I think the only kind of feeling Hiei has for Hina is gratitude. He exists because of the choices she made, even if those choices killed her in the end. He does not feel she is at fault for what happened, at least not in the same way he feels their father is at fault.

[ Hiei has no positive memories of Hina at all, so it's hard to say he really has any sort of positive association with the idea of her. She was real. She existed. And that's about as deep as it gets. Any other real feelings he might have about it are just too deeply repressed to make a difference.

“There’s a sayin’ that people use..I just can’t remember what the hell it was.” He scratches the back of his temple trying to remember the phrase ‘the heart wants what the heart wants’. However, Yusuke himself was not too much of a romantic and more of a street fighter with a good heart. “Screw it, can’t remember it but it’s important you just let people of the same gender make out freely. Their life, their choice, their satisfaction.”

Pre-spirit detective: He wouldn't really believe in it whatsoever. But of course he'd heard about the stories here and there when it came down to the myths surrounding the snake bringing good fortunte to people who come to its aid in the woods. But it's not like he'd take it seriously in a sense he's a major believer..but it'd be a more of a 'maybe I could use it to get me out of algebra' type of deal.

Post spirit detective: Yusuke would bite into the legends surrounding it. It sounds more yokai than anything, considering everything he's seen so far. Thick-headed enough to actually set out looking for it and the first place he'd look is on his late mentor's land.
