Album reviews 11/20/18

The !!!- Shake the Shudder: That's the Chk Chk Chk, if you're new. Weirdly, this picks up about halfway in. Of course, 'weirdly' is a good way to describe it anyway. These guys are hard to classify, and their music is strange and fun. But overall, this is inconsistent and not super great, which is fitting, I suppose, with my past experiences. 5.5/10

Linkin Park- One More Night: How far behind I am: This is the last album LP released before Chester Bennington's death. :( And if not for the strangeness of their previous release, this would be a really strange album. Instead, it's more of their growth away from teenage angst and shouting into... whatever the heck they ended up as. An interesting combination of alt rock and synthpop. It's just confusing sometimes, though; listen to Leo Moracchioli's cover of "Heavy", which sounds a lot more like you'd think a Linkin Park song would. I have to question their use of featured singers, but at the same time, I notice that a lot of these songs sound like apologies. The kind you might make when you know you're not going to be around for much longer. :/ This is hard to listen to. 6.5/10

Erasure- World Be Gone: For once, I'm going to start a review by saying I hope you don't remember Erasure. This is precisely the kind of tired, aimless, embarrassing album I'm always afraid 80's groups are going to release, and if you liked their old work, you're going to be really disappointed by what they've become. 4/10

Papa Roach- Crooked Teeth: Boy, just all the hits of '00 these days, ain't it? I was all set to start mocking this, but "American Dreams" is actually pretty damned good? So I have to give them props for at least that. They could stand to make their viewpoints a little sooner, however, given how evenly applicable everything else they say is. 4.5/10

The Night Flight Orchestra- Amber Galactic: This is like some classic rock! How cool! Despite these guys not forming until 2007, they're a real blast from the past. This is solid rock about space, girls, what have you. This was really impressive, I'm going to have to find more by these guys. 7.5/10
