I saw some ship art recently, and it got me thinking:
Samus Aran V.S. Little Mac
(In hand to hand combat)
In an full on fight our boy loses these sure, but when it comes to fisticuffs that is HIS thing, so like how'd it go?
To start right, Samus has zero suit, no weapons. Little Mac got his usual boxing gear.
Lets look at our fighters:
Samus is a human-chozo-metroid hybrid in her late 20's who was trained since she was a kid to be a warrior by the chozo, and then by the galactic federation. Shes clocking in at 190 centimeters (6'3"), 90 kilogrammes (198 pounds).
Due to her chozo heritage and training, Samus is superhuman levels of strength, with the mobility and acrobatic skills to complement it.
Hailing from the Bronx, NY we got Little Mac. Trained by former world champion Doc' Louis; hes just some dude. Nothing special in terms of his biology. At 17 years old he clocks in at 170 centimeters (5'7") and 48.6 kilograms (107 pounds).
Little Macs got his title as the world champion, as well as a transformation into the hulking "Giga Mac"
Now when you compare those stats alone, you're probably thinking, "Mac's gona get folded like laundry." But for those more familiar with the Punch Out!! series will know Mac is known for punching above his weight class
Height and weight
In terms of range Samus' 20 centimeter advantage is good but actually pretty standard, with most of Mac's opponents are around her height, if not taller (Soda popinski at 198 Centimeters/ 6'6").
Weight wise, while samus is clocking in at nearly double macs weight, this is pretty poultry when compared to the likes of soda popinski, bald bull and ESPECIALLY bear hugger ( 108kg/237lb, 138kg/298lb, and 200kg/440lb respectively). When it comes to the height and weight departments they mean very little for the champ.
Now we get to the fun stuff: Intelligence, mobility, strength, endurance, and fighting capability.
Intelligence
Samus is a smart fella. She takes these pretty easily not much to talk about here. Mac's battle IQ should be noted though, as he's able to predict his opponents moves quite well.
Mobility
Samus is Superhuman. Even without her powersuit shes able to jump real high and move real fast without much difficulty, plus we see shes incredibly mobile via her moveset in the smash brothers series.
However, id say little mac can keep up. Having to deal with fighters such as Piston Hondo who has been shown to outrun a bullet train, and Great Tiger who is capable of teleportation, illusion magic, and cloning.
Strength
Once again, samus is a super human warrior. She is a marksmen sure, but being superhuman she can pack a punch. And she definitely has mac beat in durability, able to withstand a few attacks from the powerful space pirates (which includes lasers).
On the Mac's side of things though, He's beaten Mr. Sandman, who was able to level an entire multi story building into rubble with just his fists. (It should be noted Mr. Sandman has the some of the fastest attacks in Punch out!!.)
While there is Giga Mac, who would put Mac closer to Samus in terms of raw strength, the speed and maneuverability lost in that form likely means it isn't worth going for. (Plus i don't believe Giga Mac is stronger than samus, though he is close.)
Endurance
Samus, superhuman, superhuman endurance. Not much to say there. She stronk. Little mac on the other hand has been shown to tire, however he's able to recover nearly instantly if he's able to catch his breath via dodging. It should be noted, little mac has been shown to have a very strong will, being able to come back even when he should be TKO'd.
Fighting capability
Outside of spinoffs we haven't been able to see much hand to hand combat from samus, especially without her power suit. But it can be assumed she's at least able to hold her own in hand to hand when not completely over powered, which in the case of Little Mac likely applies.
Little Mac is a boxing champion, so obviously this is his bread and butter. While Little Mac lacks brute force, hes able to take down the toughest of opponents through his ability to weave and counter, and with enough time wear em down to a knockout.
It should also be noted Little Mac is used to opponents who fight dirty, using unorthodox methods and even cheating with enhancing substances and weaponry in their matches.
Conclusion
For just being some guy, Little Mac could very reasonably go toe to toe with the intergalactic bounty hunter. Do i think he wins? Maybe. In the end we just don't have enough hand to hand combat data on samus to come to a solid conclusion, however this fight is a lot closer than one would assume.
