about two and a half people are gonna know what this is, but I just finished a re-read of Gregor the Overlander and decided to make this as my life preserver in the middle of the sea of emotions.

here’s the thing, right— obviously if they’d killed the bane when he was a baby, when he was pearlpelt really and fully and truly, lives would’ve been saved. but if gregor had let that happen he wouldn’t have been gregor at all, and so it had to happen like it did.

there was no way around it because the story was a tragedy in the way that orpheus and eurydice’s story is a tragedy: because orpheus loved eurydice, he had to turn around, and because gregor existed, the bane would too.
