evening counsel.
my post-movie sleeping beauty au where maleficent survives phillip's blade (barely) and a decade after a now queen aurora goes hunting for the fairy mentioned in her mother's diary to help her and phillip conceive an heir.
aurora binds mal to her and mal begins to act as her advisor and the tension starts uuuuuupppp (they start sleeping together and being little bitches about it)
its a mix of the 1959 film and the original story, the kingdom is frozen in slumber for 100 years rather than immediately revived and there's a few complications that occurred due to aurora having more magic in her than she should have as a human.

The binding AU is so good 💜💜💜 can’t wait to see more of it in the future💜💜
Where did you get your inspiration for Auroras gowns?
So i love to look at some tudor fashion and clothes (blame primary school history lol) especially the later tudor period but the tudor fashion of long as baggy sleeves isnt the most useful when im drawing characters who love to do things. So i also look at the fashion across the pond at the french stuff during that time since they loved to do some sick stuff with closer sleeves.
the sleeping beauty film is technically based in the 1300s but this is my world and these characters are just living in it so 1500s ish it is.
Im not trying to get the clothes accurately since this is a fantasy world so i just lift parts i like, another recent inspiration as been the costuming of The Serpent Queen as it's set during the same period and the shapes are lifted from the 1500s but use modern elements and i love it.
The Favourite (2018) is another example of this use of anachronistic costumes/techniques that still use lots of visual elements of that period and look awesome.
Hey!! My friend sent me your arts (both on Maleficent/Aurora and Cruella/Anitta ones (sorry, I can’t remember the ship names)) and I love them so much!!
I was thinking about why/how Aurora can perform magic in your AU and maybe it’s a bit more than just exposure to it? It feels to me that a mixture of “radiation” (exposure to magic makes you prone to “radiate” magic too) with “vampirism” (maybe being hit with magic to change colors of your dress or eating cakes that were made with magic makes your body get magical abilities too) and “wizardry” (she can perform magic by studying it and using magical artifacts to power bust her own magic) can be an answer to it
That’s just an idea but the main thing is that I love your art and I’m so excited to see more of this universe!!
Glad You're enjoying the work, thank you!
I actually have it as more like virus/immune system, depends on your own biology, your environment. humans naturally with a very high resistance to magic, normally doesn't go well leads to very unpredictable results when trying to use magic (and in my au, fairies are very reluctant/often refuse to talk about how to use magic with humans as it so often ends in disaster, hence aurora cant just ask her godmothers when she wants to learn about magic) but if you're exposed at a young age/over a long enough period you have less unpredictable results with magic.
(subplot of actually many of the kingdom's people being less affected by magic leading to a reputation of the kingdom of being quite otherworldly ONTOP of the 100 year sleeping curse)
therefore Aurora's kingdom being on the edge of the fairy realm primed her own immune system (and the immune system of her mother) to have the potential to use magic.
still sort of ironing out all the "facts" of this au but this one helped me put some logic into the magic
