A/N: Had a little thought about the hopeful time jump.
———-
“Should I give up? Or should I just keep chasing pavements? Even if it leads nowwwwhere.”
Rosa turns around as she and Tay try to bite back their smiles. “Is he okay?”
A smile curls at Kensi’s lips as her husband’s movements jostle her a little and a tone that reminds her of his sad drunk persona belts out the lyrics to one of his favorite songs. “Adele makes him weepy.”
“Adele does make me weepy.” He nods in confirmation leaning his head against hers before belting out another line.
As they make their way down the hallway of the Colosseum the girls’ excitement, buzzing. They’re still in their own little world when they all reach the elevator. The four adults exchange smiles, silence filling the void for a few seconds before Tay’s mom, Kelly, turns to the agent and investigator with a smile. “So Kensi, Marty, are you two excited about Hawaii?”
Mirrored looks of confusion cross their faces at the random question before the shaggy blonde speaks up. “Hawaii? We’re always excited about Hawaii.”
“Yeah, so much so he’s been trying to convince me that we should get a timeshare in Diamond Head since we’ve been together. Actually, even before then now that I think about it.” The brunette laughs, still, a bit confused by the odd question.
Tay’s dad, Jason lights up at the mention of one of his favorite places on the island. “Oh, that’d be great. What’s that like a 13-minute drive to campus?”
Kensi’s brow furrows sharing a look with her husband before turning back to Jason. “Campus?”
“Yeah, UH.” Kelly nods, brow furrowed.
Deeks tries his best to put the pieces together but nothing’s clicking. “Okay, I’m confused now.”
“As am I.” Kensi reiterates her partner's sentiments.
Normally someone would realize that these things haven’t been discussed yet, but Jason is not that person. “Did Rosa not tell you?”
“Tell us what?” Deeks asks as both he and Kensi turn their attention towards their 17-year-old and her best friend who have stopped talking all together and are now looking at them. The heat rising to Rosa’s cheeks not going unnoticed.
“Rosa, what’s going on?” Kensi asks, trying to hide the hurt in her voice.
Tay nudges her best friend. “I thought you were gonna tell them.”
“I was.” The raven-haired teen whispers, looking guiltily back and forth between her adoptive parents.
“Rosa?” Deeks calls her name once more trying to get some answers.
Releasing a calming breath, she relents. “A coach from the University of Hawai’i came to our scrimmage Friday.”
“Okay…” Kensi nods, urging her to continue.
“He wants me to come to the soccer camp they’re hosting this summer and…”
Her pause continues to lengthen and it’s a little agonizing so much so that the blonde feels his wife’s grip tighten around his hand more and more by the second. “And what?”
“He wants me to come to camp because he offered me a scholarship and wants me to get familiar with the facility.”
Deeks’s jaw drops as he releases his partner's hand, and closes the distance between him and their girl, wrapping her in a hug. “Oh my god, Rosa, that’s amazing! Why didn’t you tell us?”
The guilt in her eyes can’t be hidden as she’s released from Deeks’ embrace and immediately wrapped in Kensi’s. “I was going to when we got here but I fell asleep, and then I was gonna say something on our way to the concert but you guys were so happy, and I didn’t want to ruin your mood.”
The brunette pulls back, hurt shining in her eyes as she pushes the rogue hair out of the teen's face. “Ruin it? Sweetie, we’re so proud of you. You know how major it is to get an athletic scholarship your junior year?”
“That’s what I told her!”
“Tay, not helping.”
“I am definitely helping.” The corkscrew-haired teen rebuts.
A barely there smile pulls at Kensi’s lips as she locks hands with her partner once again. Not really sure how to identify her feelings right now. “I just don’t understand why you told them before you told us.”
Tay looks between Rosa and her parents feeling somewhat at fault for this whole thing. “Oh, no, that was all me. I got offered, too, Mr. and Mrs. Deeks. I didn’t tell them not to say anything cuz I thougt they could read social cues. Anyways, for what it’s worth I’m really hoping you’ll let her go cuz I need my girl there with me in O’ahu.”
Rosa can only imagine what they’re thinking. I mean can she really asked them for honesty when she hasn’t been honest herself no matter how unintentional it was? “I know we talked about UCLA-“
Deeks shakes his head, stopping her before she can say anymore. “That doesn’t matter. If you want to go to Hawai’i then we’re gonna support you every step of the way.”
“Yeah, this is about what you want.” The brunette agrees, her eyes shining with understanding.
“Is this what you want?”
Taking another calming breath Rosa looks at Tay and then back to the two people who have shown her more love than she ever thought possible again. “Yes, I really do. I didn’t know it until it was right in front of me.”
“Well then, looks like our girl’s a D1 athlete!” Kensi beams, shouting loud enough that Adele could probably hear it from the penthouse of Caesar’s Palace.
“You know what this calls for?” The blonde asks to no-one inparticular.
The special agent looks at her husband with a knowing smile. “Rocky Road?”
“Rock Road!” Deeks throws his arm around Kensi’s shoulders once again exchanging a dad smile with Jason before the elevator dings and they step inside the box.
A few minutes later as they’re walking into the parking lot, a knowing grin forms at the corner of the form detective’s lips. Leaning in, his lips but a breath away from his partner’s ear his smile grows wider. “I knew my late-night Zillow searches for O’ahu weren’t for nothing.”
All Kensi can do is smile because as unexpected as it is, this is their new chapter. This is the life she never thought they’d get.
Kensi makes her way over to the couch, sitting with her back against the arm, placing her feet in his lap. Enjoying the soft light coming from the tree and the crackling fire, she pick up her phone and scrolls through her Instagram feed. “Really, babe? Really?”
“What?”
She smiles at the picture but rolls her eyes at the caption. It’s a selfie of him and their four day old son, lounging on the couch with the Christmas tree in the background with the caption “I spawned.” written underneath. “What? That’s how you announce the birth of our son?”
“Um, yeah. Well it’s the truth….” He picks up his phone, ready to look at the clever post again when he gets a notification, quickly opening it up he winces. “Okay, yeah, I need to change mine.”
He scrolls through the multiple photos she posted. Admiring each one for the beauty that it is. Jacob Andrew Deeks. 6 lbs. 14 oz and 22 inches long. December 8, 2020. Our hearts are full.
The first photo is of the littlest Deeks wrapped in a blanket, followed by one of him laying on his daddy’s surfboard wearing a Santa hat. The last one making his eyes glisten with unshed tears. It’s a selfie that was taken unbeknownst to him of the three of them laying in their bed, snuggled up with their boy in between them, both father and son knocked out cold.
He stares at the last photo for the longest time. Mesmerized by the surreal feeling of finally having everything he’s ever wanted. Kensi and their baby.
She watches as her husband begins to wipe at his cheek. In all the years she’s known him, she’s never seen him cry as much as she has in the past four days. Taking her eyes off him, she takes a peek at the swing next to the tree. Said swing being occupied by none other than her son, Jake. She didn’t know she could love something so much.
Jake makes a little huff noise and it’s enough for Deeks to turn his complete attention to his son. Quickly getting up off the couch, he makes his way over to the swing, checking on their boy.
Her heart can’t take much more of this. Is it possible to die of happiness, because she’s almost there. She looks on while he rearranges his blanket and makes sure everything’s okay, the softness in his voice as he talks to their son sends her into tears.
“Are you okay, buddy?” He nods his head, as the little boy sighs. “Yeah, just like your mama. Wanting all my attention on you.” Deeks looks over at his wife, sending her a wink.
Grabbing her phone when he turns his attention back to the four day old, she finds what she’s looking for, types out the message and waits for him to join her back on the couch.
Hearing the notification from his phone, he checks his son one last time and makes his way back to the couch.
Once he’s settled, he clicks the notification, sending him back to her profile.
Seeing you with him brings peace to my soul. You are the best thing that ever happened to me, Marty Deeks, and I can’t wait to watch you become the best thing that’s ever happened to our little man. My heart……my everything. My boys. My boys.
The caption paired with a photo of Deeks cradling his mini me in his arms, both staring up at their Christmas tree in amazement.
He looks over at her, his love, his wife, the woman of his dreams and the mother of his child. Reaching his hand out, he takes hold of her wrist and pulls her towards him. She doesn’t resist and falls into his embrace. Sliding under his arm, she snuggles into his side, wrapping her arm around his waist.
“I love you, baby. I love you so much.” He kisses the top of her head and then rest his head on hers.
The sigh of contentment she lets out is just that. She’s never felt this at peace before. Sitting here snuggled up to her husband as they watch their boy sleep, giving off little snort snores. “I love you more.”
About a half an hour later he’s left with a double dose of snort snores as his wife succumbs to sleep. He shakes his head in awe at what his Christmases and everyday life have become. Wrapped up with his love, staring at what their love made, he takes his phone, sending off a quick message before he places his head back on hers and closes his eyes, succumbing to sleep himself.
She doesn’t hear her phone go off, notifying her of a message, but she’ll see it in the morning.
You’re my world and now you’re his too. He’s gonna look at you and know that he’s loved and always will be. Your strength and beauty make me fall more and more in love with you everyday. You are my home. Your smile. Your laugh. Everything. You are my EVERYTHING.
The photo on his home screen of his wife and baby boy cuddled up on the couch, sleeping, now made public to the world….or at least their friends and family.
He cards his fingers through her brown locks, mindlessly, as a sense of contentment...actually more than contentment fills his being. It’s Friday night and here they are, curled up on the couch like the old married couple that they are, watching a movie, and he wouldn’t change a damn thing about it.
Turning his attention away from the screen he looks down at his beautiful wife, who immediately feels his eyes on her. She looks up at him, a soft smile ever so present on her lips as he slowly leans over, bringing his lips to her for a soft kiss. “I love you.”
“I love-“
Before she can get the words out a large bout of laughter fills the room.
Mirroring grins spread to their faces as they look to the middle of the couch where their boy is. Sitting on his mama’s stomach, Kai is kicked back against the couch, in just his diaper, having a fit as Jack Jack spars with the pesky raccoon on screen.
“Is that funny, buddy?” Deeks can’t help but laugh along with his son.
Kensi’s eyes dart back and forth between her husband and son, their smiles sending her heart into a gelatin like state. My boys.
As the raccoon runs off and Bob brings Jack Jack back into the house, Kai begins to settle back down, his attention solely focused on the movie. It’s not until a few minutes later that his little body is sprawled out across is mama, her fingers finding his tiny dark blonde locks, massaging his tiny scalp as her husband gets back to working his magic on hers.
As the afternoon LA heat starts to creep in, Kensi leans forward in her lawn chair, her attention moving back and forth between the blonde at home plate and the brunette at third.
“Strike!”
“Come on, Casey!” The brunette yells along with the rest of the parents.
The pitcher winds up and releases the ball. It sails across the field, right down the center of the plate. Casey connects with it, sending the object flying across the gap between the first and second basemen.
Kensi stands up, cheering as she watches her boy turn on the burners, running towards home. As soon as Theo steps across the plate, she’s left in a state of shock when he pops his butt back and does a little twerk in celebration.
She tries to stifles her laugh as she watches her son and quickly looks back to third base, locking eyes with her husband who is shaking his head, grinning.
As the 10 year old starts to walk back into the dugout, he locks eyes with his mom, same grin as his dad spread across his face. He’s his father’s son, that there’s no denying.
About a half hour later the game finally wraps up and Kensi makes her way over towards the gate waiting for her boys. As the last of the players trickle out Theo and Deeks finally make their way out.
The brunette has a bright smile on his face, as he runs up to mom. “Did you see my celebration dance?”
“Yeah, baby, I did.” She laughs and looks up at her husband as they share a smile. “Just like your dad.”
“Oh, what?” Deeks feigns shock before he pops out his butt and proceeds to twerk just like his mini me did awhile ago.
The 10 year old laughs before joining his dad as they twerk up a storm.
Kensi shakes her head a mixture of disbelief and awe written across her face. This is her life and she loves every weird thing about it.
Could you write a sequel to the Drabble you wrote about an homeless woman giving Kensi and Deeks her child? Like they’d meet again on the street or in a shop a few years later. Thanks
Knock on the Door Part II
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Kensi?”
At the sound of her name being called the brunette turns around and is completely shocked. “Lucy? Oh my gosh, hi!”
The younger brunette smiles as Kensi comes up to her, wrapping her arms around her for a hug. “Hi!”
“What are you doing here?”
“Well I’m stationed in San Diego so my boyfriend and I decided to come up here for the weekend.” Lucy looks over towards the ice cream shop just as said man walks out the door. “Looks like he’s made a new friends.”
The former agent huffs a laugh at the sight of her husband walking towards her with some unexpected company when she realizes what the younger brunette just said. “Wait, you joined the Navy?”
“Yep, I’ve been a marine for about 6 years and I just passed my PST.”
Deeks hands his wife her Rocky Road and turns towards the younger brunette with a proud smile. “Wow, so you’re a SEAL?”
“Yeah, after I met you two I realized what I was meant to do so I enlisted and have been in the Navy ever since.”
“It’s so great to see you, Lucy.” Deeks steps over, wrapping his arms around Lucy in a hug just as his wife did before.
“You, too. I see you’ve met Mark.”
The red head extends his hand towards the older brunette. “Hi, you must be Kensi.”
“Well if I’m not, I’ve been signing the wrong name for the past 46 years.”
Deeks looks over a her a soft and dreamy filled gaze crosses his features at his wife’s quick wit.
Lucy’s attention however turns to the little girl standing next to Kensi. “How is she?”
Kensi’s eyes follow the SEAL’s and watches as her daughter steals a spoonful of the ice cream that’s not hers. “Pestering her brother as usual.”
“Livie.” Deeks calls his daughter to get her attention, when she looks up at him he nods towards the Naval Officer.
The tiny blonde’s eyes looks over and her eyes light up as she runs a few short steps, wrapping her tiny arms around the brunette’s waist. “Lucy!”
“H-Hi.”
“Thank you for giving me to my mommy and daddy.”
“Lucy, this is Olivia.”
“O-Olivia?”
Kensi nods with a soft smile. When she and Deeks were trying to decide on names for their little girl her mind went back to a story Lucy had told them about her mother and how she was so warm and kind so the name was kinda obvious to them.
“And who is this little guy?” Mark suddenly speaks up seeing the little boy being picked up by his mother.
“This is Theo.” The tiny brunette that looks like his mommy but has the personality of his daddy wraps his arms around Kensi, hiding his face in her neck.
“Hi, Theo.”
Theodore Deeks. After they got Liv, Kensi and Deeks didn’t really have time to think about having another kid and with the craziness that comes with a new born Kensi never went back on her birth control. They never really thought about getting pregnant and just thought their time had already passed, but little did they know that after basically 5 years of trying (consciously and subconsciously) it would happen. One day Kensi walked into her husband’s office and switched out the pen on his desk with a positive pregnancy test. The high pitched squeal he let out when he found it made her laugh and then cry and then laugh some more.
“Look we were just about to go back to the beach to surf some more. Would you two like to come?” Deeks asks, cerulean blues shining with hope.
The SEAL looks over at her boyfriend and receives an excited nod. “Yeah, we’d like that.”
Deeks turns to the tiny brunette and tiny blonde, raising his voice in excitement. “Alright you little gerbils, to the beach!”
Kensi can’t help but smile as Deeks wraps his arm around her shoulder, pulling her into his side placing a kiss to the top of her head with their kids running in front of them and the woman who changed their lives forever walking right beside them with her new life beside her.
8 years ago she wasn’t much of a believer in the everything happens for a reason mantra but now, yeah now she knows how true the words really are.
#50 --- with a twist. Make it so DEEKS says that line! 😂
“This is girl talk, so leave.”
XXXX
Sam pads his way through the hall and stops when he reaches the open door. Leaning against the doorway, he huffs a small laugh. “Hey, Deeks. Nice dress you got on there.”
A set of blue and brown eyes turn towards the large agent, sending him a glare.
“Samuel, I’ll have you know this is one of a kind Victorian era dress.” Turning back towards his daughter, Deeks rolls his eyes. “Can you believe this vazey man? I mean clearly he doesn’t know about the intricacies of the 1800s fashion era.”
The tiny brunette shakes her head in disbelief. Taking in the stitchwork of his dress, she does what any 5 year old would do and points out something she likes about it. “I do love the stitch work of your hemline, Blanche.”
“Why thank you, dear.”
Deeks brings the teacup up to his lips, pinky out of course. Turning to the larger agent, he pooches out his lips titling his head with as much sass as he can muster. “This is girl talk, so leave.”
Sam shakes his head at his pseudo kid brother and god daughter. “Okay, I’m just gonna head to the garage and help Kensi on the car. Just wanted to come in and say hey.”
As he hears the ex-Navy SEAL traipse back down the hall, Deeks clicks his tongue, rolling his eyes as he turns back to his princess. “Ugh. Men.”
