The Diodes - Red Rubber Ball/Terminal Rock
Far from the tops of OG Toronto Punk, but god damn this is me at the moment.
Ian Mackay, bassist, and Paul Robinson, singer for the Toronto-based punk band The Diodes, with Wendy O. Williams at Max's Kansas City in New York, as captured by the band’s manager Ralph Alfonso in 1977.
By the time they signed to CBS Records in August `77, The Diodes had already run Canada's first punk club, the legendary Crash 'n' Burn Club, played CBGB's in New York and been mentioned in the music press as a band to watch, releasing their self-titled debut album in October, 77.
A month later The Diodes headlined the notorious and packed Max's Kansas City with none other than Wendy O. Williams introducing them on stage. This was before she started with The Plasmatics, when she was still a porn star and her manager Rod Swenson was doing counter-culture projects and documentaries on a lot of bands, so he produced the show and Wendy interviewed the band.
You can almost feel they really want to look straight up at her so bad it hurts .
