Poetry engrained within the lyrics of songs is still something I can't seem to escape when my mind wonders. Unsurpisingly I find it inside Iron Maiden's offering. A prevailing consistency in the foundation of Steve Harris' writing. Ha, Steve. Good name that, if you ask for my two cents. But alas a little off topic for this set of musing...
The chorus of the song almost feels like slam poetry to me. Maybe I have miss understood the term. Very possible. I am a victim to my own ignorance and a novice to the concept. A life lived in fear of the written word is a resentful one on my part. A life often mired by the mere thought that I have robbed myself of many years of potential escapism and joy. A means to pull the metaphorical colar up, sheilding my neck of the harsh cold winds of society and it's horrors.
I say this as I listen to this song. It's chorus in my mind pleding with the listener to push forward. Go boldly into the unknown. Seek the truths to hold dear to ones self. To see and feel more than the borders of our comfort zones. I find solace in this idea. Even if the strides are small in nature. The reality of being a even a step ahead from where I once was. That in it's self progress.
I want to leave my life on my own I want to lift the unturned stone I want to walk right into the fire I want to live out all my desires I want to go and see the fire burn I want to see and feel my world turn I want to know what more there's to learn I want to pass the point of no return
