Chi Lebo: ::rubs Zane's arm:: I remember you like stars. Zane: I do. Chi Lebo: Do you know these ones? Zane: A few of them, and I can guess at… ::eyes the view:: …about a third of them.
How much have I actually said? How much of what I've said was so long ago that it's hard to remember?

The "few of them" were because he knows the Edge pretty well.
The third is because of the knowledge that exists in the part of the Eye that's fused into him. It's too much for his conscious mind, and the Eye doesn't want him consciously knowing all of it anyway, so it comes out as compulsions and synesthesia.
Any given star has a distinctive color and sound when he looks at them, which function as labels. Generally, the color tells him which Hand should be managing that solar system, and the sound tells him how well it's going.
Even looking at stars from another angle, he can notice things like "three of Lyla's, all of them doing well."

Rincewind stared, and knew that there were far worse things than Evil. All the demons in Hell would torture your very soul, but that was precisely because they valued souls very highly; evil would always try to steal the universe, but at least it considered the universe worth stealing. But the grey world behind those empty eyes would trample and destroy without even according its victims the dignity of hatred. It wouldn't even notice them. (The Light Fantastic, by Terry Pratchett)
A Lyctor’s order is the order of God and should be carried out with the same grace you would have honoured me with.
