I am indeed still very proud of that banner, I often wonder if I should change my profile picture to something more up to d8, but always decide not to because I feel it's too iconic by now.
The banner on the other hand, I don't plan on changing anytime soon, I think it still holds up pretty well.
You know what, since I'm feeling generous today I'll drop a few fun facts about it.
The whole idea of Aranea as the devil came from a moment of frustration at majority of the fandom painting her as this cartoonishly evil monster, but because I've always been a sucker for religious imagery I realized that seeing her as a fallen angel like Lucifer was shockingly fitting still, so I decided it might have been interesting to do just that, and naturally I had to pick one of the most iconic paintings of Lucifer ever (and one of my personal favourite paintings in general) as reference, The Fallen Angel by Alexandre Cabanel.
I still have the sketch too!
(Sylph 'Nea is there so I had a reference for her wing patterns, and yes I made that sprite too.)
I actually did not trace anything, even tho it was tempting at times, and I'm glad I didn't because it felt more accomplishing in the end.
As you can probably guess, this is supposed to take place immediatly after dying following GAME OVER, and is meant to be a unique take on what her state of mind could be like: unlike another drawing of mine where she's utterly destroyed emotionally, here instead she's defiant, she's having none of it, much like Lucifer in the painting right after falling from Heaven, you have not seen the last of her.
I also briefly considered giving her ghost eyes, it would have made sense, but I feared it would have numbed down her expression too much, so let's pretend they are about to turn white, like how it happened a few times in canon.
Another funny thing about it is how barely anyone cared about it when I first published it, much like how the original painting wasn't that well recieved back in the day, and only later really started to gain traction.
Sorry for the probably unexpected infodump session (although, this is an Aranea-themed 8log, you should always 8e prepared for it lol) but this was the perfect excuse to yap about it.
Definitely not gonna be the last time I draw her as Lucifer either (not even counting Hell Tier Aranea, even thought it started from here), in fact, I have done so again recently.
