Thinking about the parallels of Dean taking Jack out for that ride in baby, of them recreating a moment Dean had with his father, Dean scoffing and saying something like never thought hanging around me would make you sentimental... slowly cementing this realization that through how difficult and rocky their relationship has been, Jack and Dean's- through how lowly Dean actually thinks of himself as a role model and a person, how desperately he's still trying to break free from all the damage that his own father dealt him, how he feels like none of his shit is ever together and he could never be the person Jack, Sam and Cas, that his family needs- that Jack still chooses Dean to be his dad. One of his d a d s. Let that sink in for a moment...
Because Jack knows family is not in the blood. He was raised by Winchesters and a fallen angel. He knows that family is who you learn from and who you fall on and who makes you want to do better, and hell, who makes you want to fight and make mistakes and sacrifice and makes you want to love everyone and that family is who you choose.
Thinking about how we got Cas canonically saying that he became a father in raising Jack... How he continues to be a father in every choice he makes for the nephilim, always reminding Jack that he's more than a tool or a weapon for Heaven and Hell's will. Or for Sam and Dean. That there will always be some cosmic being telling Jack what to do or what his purpose must be or what his destiny is and what he must sacrifice for, and that at the end of the day it doesn't matter, only what Jack wants and believes matters. Because the only thing any of them ever truly longed for is, to be a family, and how somehow through the pain and destruction and God's theatre full of puppet strings they made one. Guided and grew with each other through acts of love and free will.
Because family is the one thing you can't take away, even in death.
And nothing says dead in supernatural.
