So, a long while ago, Andrew Joseph White posted this tumblr alignment chart with the names of his protagonists edited in. (I'm pretty sure the "Redacted" here is Crane from before YWMTBH was officially announced.
So, because I love sorting things into categories, I decided to make a post saying where I think the protagonist's from AJW's short stories fall into and what my predictions are for what the future book protagonists will be like.
I think he's one of very few or maybe even the only AJW protagonist that's not pathetic in any way. Maybe a tiny bit of Kicked Puppy, but only if a kicked dog bracing for the next strike and getting ready to bite in retaliation also counts as a kicked puppy lol. He's the murderer kind of covered in blood, but not very strongly so since he doesn't actually kill anyone in the story, so he's very close to the x-axis there.
Joey from The Foal With Two Heads:
He's very pathetic in the wet cat way in my opinion, and mostly the victim kind of covered in blood, but also a bit of the murderer kind in a metaphorical sense.
Isaac from The Follower, or Psalm 127:3:
He's on the far end of victim covered in blood and kicked puppy vibes with Silas, maybe even further out than him, but with an asterisk. While he never kills anyone in the story and doesn't seem inclined to do so, he's still completely complicit to Saul's serial killing and is literally covered in the blood of murder victims because of this, so I feel he also belongs in the murderer covered in blood category a bit, though not very strongly. He's still 100% a kicked puppy though.
Amavon from The Constellations Are Unrecognizable Here:
He's very wet cat pathetic and victim covered in blood to me.
Jenea from The Constellations Are Unrecognizable Here:
I know I don't include any of the other love interests or deuterogonists here, but it honestly feels like both Amavon and Jenea are the protagonists of TCAUH, so it just felt incomplete without Jenea. He's intensely covered in blood as a victim and not pathetic in any way at all to to me.
Cameron from Who Were You, What Are You:
He is wet cat pathetic I think, about halfway down the line, and the victim variety of covered in blood, also at about the halfway point.
He's not covered in blood in either way thankfully because he just lives a normal life, but he is a bit kicked puppy pathetic.
Landry Montiarc from Oathbreaker:
This guy, on the other hand, is very wet cat pathetic I think, a bit covered in blood as a victim and very much covered in blood as a murderer. Yes, most of the people he kills are also murderers or otherwise bad people, but he still kills a lot of them, so I think it counts.
Morgan Slaughter from You're No Better:
Obviously the book isn't out yet so I can't be sure, but I think, judging from the exerpts we have so far, that he will not be pathetic in either way, or not very strongly at least. He will likely be strongly covered in blood as a victim, and about halfway as a murderer.
Blythe from Beast//Warden:
I think he might end up being a bit wet cat pathetic, and very much covered in blood as a murderer.
Gunwyn Byrne from the as-of-yet unannounced adult project:
We know nothing about this man, but I just decided to include him to celebrate the fact that he will one day exist in my bookshelf. My prediction is that he will be very kicked puppy pathetic and evenly split between being covered in blood as a victim and a murderer, but this is based on literally nothing besides vague vibes.
Do you agree with these alignments? Who would you sort differently? How would you sort AJW love interests or any other characters, AJW-related or not? Please tell me!
