Victoria Gordon

Victoria is the daughter of Christine and Vincent Gordon. She also has a younger sister, Angel, and a nephew, Edward. 

When Victoria was young, she was often made fun of for her freckles. Her mother taught her how to cover them. She expressed interest in singing, and she started receiving lessons. Her father was a con man who manipulated people in order to fund his gambling and her lessons. Victoria learned ways to convince and deceive others from him. 

Victoria grew to be very beautiful, but she craved attention. Nothing was ever enough for her, she wanted bigger crowds and more praise. She could be impulsive with violent outbursts. She was jealous of Angel, who became a dancer and performed gracefully. However, she was also protective of Angel due to the men around her. Victoria was good at reading people, and able to pick up on things quicker than Angel. 

One day, her father got in trouble by conning the wrong people, and they came to the house. Victoria killed both the men, knowing that her career would fail without the money. She manipulated her way into bigger singer roles, moving from one city to another. Coincidentally, people who were competition or men she’d been seen with would die and be discovered after she’d left. 

Eventually a detective begins tracking these mysterious deaths and ends up at one of Victoria’s shows, and she begins to fall for him without knowing his real intentions.

I never had many asexual characters because I learned most LGBT concepts when I was young, and I didn’t understand it very much. Now that I’m older, I’m making more asexual characters. I’ve often seen the idea that asexual people can’t have meaningful relationships, which isn’t true. 

Diana was my way of showing an asexual person in a meaningful and loving relationship, but constrained by historical and societal expectations. Her husband loves her, but they both struggle to understand her identity in 1910s America.

Charlie is one of my favourites (they’re all my favourites but still) because she requires the most growth throughout the story and takes the longest to do it. She’s been searching for meaning her whole life, and when she dies, she expects some kind of resolution. But she becomes a ghost and is just…stuck.

She becomes an apprentice, so she figures that’s what she’s meant for. Then she becomes the ghost medium, and it’s monotonous for her. She’s not used to openly caring for others or having this role. Then she makes William her apprentice and she figures her job is to let William do everything while assisting the bare minimum. She gets too comfortable. Then she loses her powers and William becomes the ghost medium. She has nothing against like when she died. It’s a vicious cycle for her.

I haven’t been posting much because I’ve been trying to get a set timeline for the characters, but there’s so many it’s a bit difficult. Anyways, this is Victoria’s sister Angel (On the left) and Angel’s son Edward (On the right).

Angel isn’t that important in the main story other than giving Edward mommy issues. Edward died when he was 15, but because ghosts don’t age (Well, they kinda do but it’s complicated, he doesn’t get physically older) Edward gets treated like a child despite being older than a lot of other ghosts. He’s moody like a teenager despite feeling mentally like an adult, but he can’t mature. That makes him really grouchy and avoidant, so most ghosts only know him from snide remarks

Yvette’s evolution

Since I’ve recently been working on Yvette’s story, (mostly imagining it in my head) I thought I’d show the different designs I tried before settling on the one I had now. Mind you, it was probably over the span of a few months, but I digress. 

I always had the idea of the twin braids and blonde hair because hair is very meaningful to my characters. It’ll instantly tell you quite a lot about them. For Yvette, her hair changes a lot due to her personal growth. The twin braids, to me, symbolised how she feels trapped, and has communication issues with her boyfriend that has slowly degraded their relationship. She is stuck in her ways but is in denial about it, and avoids breaking up with him due to several things. 

I could visualise it, but my original drawing of her was rushed and it didn’t really feel like her. I then considered maybe the twin braids wouldn’t fit. 

I really wanted to try learning different hairstyles, so I then moved on to an afro. I loved it, but I knew instantly it didn’t suit her at the beginning of her story. It looked like an older, more mature Yvette. I decided to reserve that hairstyle for later on. I really wanted to emphasise her inexperience with the world. I also got rid of the tattoos just because I knew I’d forget to draw them every time. 

I then circled back it the twin braids but used a reference to make it look more clean. I’m definitely happy with how she looks now, but I love even more how she looks later. We’ll see if I ever draw it.

Anna-Gloria Gordon

Anna-Gloria Gordon was the product of an accidental pregnancy between Everett Gordon and Isabella. Her parents were very distant, and Anne was often alone. She began doing ballet at a young age and pursued other forms of dance, she also grew orchids. Anne was very fun-loving, bubbly and curious. 

As she got older, she would sneak out to parties without little attention from her parents. During one of these nights, she met her future husband, Paul. He was older, an aspiring architect, and offered an escape from her cold and lonely childhood home. They got married when Anne was twenty one. 

Things began to turn after they got married. Anne flourished in her dancing, but Paul tried to control her gradually. He isolated her from her friends, and became jealous when she left the house. He broke down her confidence until she didn’t want to leave, and secluded her in her greenhouse with her orchids. In 1965, she gave birth to her son, Peter. She loved him dearly, and they were very close. 

In 1978, Anne snuck out to go to a party. She dressed in florals and bright colours, which Paul didn’t allow. In a fit of rage upon her return, her husband beat her to death. He was caught and arrested, while their son began working young in order to look after himself.

Welcome to my art blog! My main account is @thatgordongirl where I post more general stuff and do my rants. Here’s a Q&A for anything you’re interested about upon visiting this blog.

Are you doing commissions?

No, my art is definitely not good enough for someone to pay for, and even then I don’t feel comfortable with it. Also I’ve heard lots of horror stories and I’m not into being scammed, haha. I usually do traditional art anyway. I’m happy to receive questions though! 

What will be your upload schedule? 

I’m not really going to have a schedule because it’s the quickest way to burn me out creativity wise. I also am in Uni so I do have work that may get in the way of consistently posting, but I’ll try my best. 

Who are these OCs?

These OCs are part of a universe I’ve created that spans a lot of time, so they’re all in different time periods. The story basically surrounds the Gordon family. They are divided up into their own stories and often are self-contained. I did it this way because I wanted to explore a range of genres and relationships, and I’m a history nut so I wanted to sprinkle my knowledge in.

If I were to split it up in a way that made sense, the story begins in the late 1600s with some characters I haven’t shown yet. I would probably make this into a short story as it’s important but not that extensive. The Ghost Medium is mainly set from 1960 to 1990, but it will showcase events and characters from 1780 through to the setting. Some of the characters from the Ghost Medium also appear in other stories later on. 

The Cat and the Canary with Yvette and Dane, James and Oswald, and a detective story I’m designing are all set in modern times. If I could I’d probably give Yvette and Dane a three season show just because I like their love story so much. There’s also a possible futuristic story, but I haven’t done much with it.
