Deviled Eggs
Deviled eggs are an Italian dish that are especially popular in Midwestern and Southern USA. They are made by hard boiling eggs, peeling them, cutting them in half and mixing the yolk with a variety of other ingredients like mayonnaise or peppers.
In America, they are typically served cold as hors d’oeuvres. In ‘The Help’ , Aibeleen serves Elizabeth’s friends deviled eggs at a bridge party hosted by Elizabeth:
“Finally I do Miss Leefolt. She the hostess so she got to pick up her eggs last. And soon as I’m done, Miss Hilly say, “Don’t mind if I do, and snatch herself two more eggs, which don’t surprise me.”
Want to try your hand at making deviled eggs yourself? Here’s a recipe. Serve them as starters or as an afternoon snack.
