The Ink Demon and Joey Drew are not the same person. They’re different entities altogether and share just a little fraction of soul that was necessary to create a fully animated ink creature.

If you want to get technical about it, Binky is basically Joey’s bastard child. The one he wants nothing to do with and actively keeps locked away and isolated from anyone but the Ink Entity (which has shown Binky more compassion than any human ever did) because he’s absolutely disgusted with failure.

Joey called them the Rorschach. Highly appropriate since usually the Ink Entity looks like moving inky splatters and plumes that take the shape of others they've consumed.
