Listen to instincts?

You could almost feel your fear increasing. After a few seconds of trying to get what she's meaning, you find it easier to just... fade for a bit.

When you decide to let something primal take over, you find yourself trying to jump back and scratch at The Joyous. You aren't sure why, but it felt like the right action to make while this scared.

It's not until an actual, loud cry of pain leaves her that you come back to your senses, blood all over your talon-like hands. You look over at The Joyous, shaking lightly.

Seems your wild flailing managed to break off her mask, and cause a lot of damage. Including something causing her to hold her eye. Oh, god, you damaged her eye!

"Shit! I-I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over me! I-"

She cut you off, humming and trying to adjust her coat with just one hand. "It's alright... Really... We shouldn't have expected you to be the breakthrough, I guess..."

You go to ask her questions. What did she mean? Was she ok? Were you in trouble? She turns away.

"You'll have someone come in to sedate you and bring you back to your room. After that, you're free to do what you please, as long as it's within our confines." She leaves then before you can say anything.

You're not even sure how to describe who came in because you weren't in there mentally anymore. You had attacked someone important to some of your friends. You blacked out and possibly caused permanent damage to Wilbur's mom. You aren't sure how you could possibly face others after this.

So you don't. You wake up in your room and decide to just stay in there.

That one definitely sounded the best. The safest. And... somehow familiar? Like you had heard the codename somewhere before... and recently? Regardless of those thoughts someone came into the room and turned on the lights, speaking as she got into view.

"Oh, wow! I didn't expect you to be awake already!" She smiles a bit as she continues. "You are something else! A few others tried to escape but usually not so suddenly. Oh! And how well you did avoiding Dream? Amazing!“ She clears her throat. "Sorry, I’m rambling a bit. You’re just the most fascinating subject we’ve had!”

She hums and looks over some notes. "Now, I'm sure you have some questions, and I'm gracious, so go ahead!"

You think that one sounds best. Definitely the least dangerous sounding. The light gets turned on and a voice is heard.

“Oh, wow! I didn’t expect you to be awake already!” She says as she steps into view.

“You are something else! A few others tried to escape but usually not so suddenly. Oh! And how well you did avoiding Dream? Amazing!" She clears her throat. "Sorry, I'm rambling a bit. You're just the most fascinating subject we’ve had!”

She hums as she looks over some notes. “I’m sure you have a few questions, and I’m rather gracious, so go ahead.”

"What... What happened?"

The question is followed with a long sigh from The Joyous. "Are you sure you could handle it?" You nod with an approving hum and she continues.

"I figured if anything could allow for instincts to be ignored on ones that didn't before, it would be a pre-established bond.” She starts seeming to pace while also looking for something. “But Phil’s unstoppable hunger and Wilbur’s lack of nerves collided in a negative way.”

You blink a bit. “S-so, you mean…?”

She laughs weakly. “You seem like a smart kid, I’m sure you can piece it together. Fortunately that type of situation hasn’t happened again but…”

She shakes her head and pulls something out of a drawer before looking at you slightly.

“But enough of that. All of us are very curious about you, and I think it’s about time we test some things.” You wiggle a bit as you see what she has.

Is that a needle?!?

"What's that for?"

"Am I gonna be hurt?"

Wilbur

The answer came to you and left your mouth like second nature. And it caused The Joyous to pause a bit before laughing weakly. "Heh, good one, Tommy. But seriously, who would you say you're closest to?"

You're sure the confusion to that is apparent and she tilts her head a bit. "You were joking, yes?"

You aren't sure how to respond to that. You're quiet in your reply. "I'm pretty sure you know I'm-"

Your words get cut off as The Joyous grabs both of your shoulders, the grip a little tighter than what's comfortable for anyone.

"You're joking, right, Tommy?" Her grip tightens even more, definitely hurting now.

It's apparent to you by her position, expression, and tone that this isn't a misunderstanding, or a plea. This is a threat of some sort. Likely because of something she knows and isn't telling you.

And the whole thing is making you feel nervous and somewhat unsafe...

The Master

There's some hums before you finally get another comment out. "So... is The Master an asshole or something? Given he just kinda stopped paying attention to some others..."

The Joyous chuckles a bit. "It's... a lot more complicated than that. But it's not my place to talk about him much." She starts looking around for things.

"C'mon, man! Tell me something about how he is!" You say with a huff, not wanting to be brushed off like that. "Is he a good guy or not?"

She sighs a bit. "He's just... ambitious. sometimes he's kind, sometimes he's cruel. It depends. Like I said, it's complicated."

"Anyway, we should continue..." She turns around a bit.

You blink a bit at the needle, not really feeling more than slightly worried on it. Which is weird, because you don't actually know what's in it, but something in you tells you it's completely safe.

She walks over and pricks you, injecting whatever's in it into you.

"You either are very brave, or weirdly trusting, but I thank you for not fighting it. This is just an appetite suppressant. Should get rid of your hunger, so that it won't drive any actions you make." She steps back. "I'm gonna go, now, and then you'll be let out. Don't take anything..."
