The Lovers Beneath the Veil
Beneath a wan and wormwood moon
two lovers moulder in bridal earth,
ivory fingers intertwined
where drink the rain of graves.
Once flesh adored flesh;
now bone remembers bone.
Above them burns the Sixth Arcanum,
its Angel terrible and radiant,
presiding over ancient Mystery
where Eros kisses Thanatos
and Love descends beyond the Veil.
The worms perform the Great Work.
Flesh dissolves prima materia;
blood returns unto the Secret Earth,
yet still their skulls incline together
as though exchanging forbidden gospel.
two dead lovers becoming One
within the black athanor of the grave.
What Love has joined beyond the Veil,
even Death may only transmute.
