durin's history may have been tragic but he brought so many miracles to dragonspine. he ... his blood seeped into the leylines and left behind quartz to make fire- to keep you warm. to help you live. his blood reconstructed dorian, giving him a second chance at life after he had been wronged. (dont worry abt the rest of his canon doooont even worry it doesnt exist to me <3 ) his blood helps revive the frostbearing tree!!! fuck. the people of sal vindagnyr may be dead but the tree remembers them and mourns them and though they could not be saved, the tree lives because durin gave life back to it. he wasn't able to make friends with the people of mondstadt like he dreamed of so badly but i hope he gets to understand the life he brought back to vindagnyr (specifically talking abt the version of durin before the new human durin and whatever ofc)

remember when a fake albedo was said to be trying to get rid of albedo and then replace him? albedo had to fight him off or whatever for being a danger? right? still with me? how many of us remember that. ok now why did they literally do that to durin

people being like "ahh this character will never be playable" when durin is gonna be a playable afaik is so funny to me. the dead dragon? the dragon that died and has a whole mountain named after the fact he died on it? he's playable? at this point anything's possible

mini durin is so..... confusing and frustrating as a concept. like yeah he's cute and all and human durin's design feels like it's attacking me directly but...

durin's story is tragic.

the way genshin tried to.... "fix it" or whatever is kind of a punch in the throat to be fucking honest?? like oh yeah here's the tragic result of rhinedottir's fucking around and finding out. we'll drop some random and sparse but fun info about him and albedo every now and then but ykno. he's dead. he's dead and all he wanted was to make friends but he was unintentionally hurting everyone so they had to kill him.

but wait! one of rhinedottir's friends was soooo sad so she wrote a story about him! and you get to make him have a good ending!! but.. no you don't?? that's... that's a new guy. all she did was bring to life another creation with the same trauma just cuz like. she wanted to. she fully consciously made a new guy to be traumatized

so now there's two of them. one of them still dead but hey at least the new guy gets friends. and you'd think they'd stop there but No!!! the dead dragon is actually still evil (not even getting into this) and we have to get the new guy to replace him!! this will fix everything! new guy can fight for dominance in a new body with the evil one and then maybe we can be rid of him for good!! hooray!! (sarcasm, just to be clear)

and honestly it fucking hurts?. as someone who's been in love with vindagnyr/dragonspine since i first started playing? i love dragonspine so much and i felt a lot for durin! i wanted a better ending too! this wasn't a better ending.

spending time with klee has taught albedo a lot of valuable things about being a person but he's still got a long way to go

wait ok ok genuinely i am incredibly curious about what makes the way they handled durin's story appealing because i don't understand. sorry, that comes across kind of asshole-ish but i mean as in like. maybe im missing a point of view or there's a side im not considering or something. if anyone feels like infodumping their side or what they find good about durin/mini durin's story i'd love to hear or learn
