Helaena: No, you idiot! She’s not here here! Xander: What’s the problem then? Helaena: She’s in Sulani...she’s on Big Brother. Lui: Holy shit!
Xander studied his sister’s face for any small sign that she might be joking, but he found nothing. It must have been true; his mother, Karyn-Deirdre Paxton, famed author and bigot extraordinaire was holed up in the metal box a couple of islands over. He felt his heart drop out his arse.
Xander: How are we gonna tell Dad?
Helaena: I hope the wifi is good enough to catch Big Brother here, I mean it’s basically being filmed next door! I wonder who else in the house this year, ...Moses is pretty hot! Damn, so is Raheem...wow, Olive is going to bring the drama...
Helaena found herself on the very familiar Big Brother website. The cast was being announced one by one and she scrolled through the bios and photos. When she reached the most recent upload, she froze. She would have recognised that helmet of blonde hair anywhere!
Helaena: Hey, this woman looks li....no! No! NO!
Everything was going well for the Paxtons after a tough few years. Preston had finally left his marriage after several, long, deeply unhappy years. He had moved to Sulani and taken up painting, where he very quickly fell in love with Claudia, his teacher. They were expecting twins in the near future.
Helaena had moved out of the house before her parents’ divorce and had forged a career for herself at a SanMyshuno-based PR firm. She was single, focusing on her career and had taken some much needed leave to visit her father in Sulani...with her laptop of course! She didn’t want to disconnect too much!
Xander didn’t think twice above moving with his father. His mother terrified him seemed to enjoy guilt tripping and cutting him down. Since moving to Sulani, he met Lui and had never felt happier.
What could possibly go wrong...
Helaena ran past her dad and Claudia and out to the garden, where she knew her brother and Lui were watching the sunset.
Helaena: Get up! Get up now!! Xander: What the hell? Helaena: She’s here! Mum is here!
Xander’s heart jumped into his throat as he got to his feet. He looked around stupidly, as if his mother was going to jump out of the bushes and tell him he was going straight to hell, just like the old days.
Xander: I don’t see her...
