THE PERMS RELEASE NEW ALBUM
The Perms
They say no matter how many genres rise, rock will never take a backseat and The Perms keeps that promise, too. Coming off from the high of 2011's Sofia Nights, The Perms comes back this year with The Aberdeen EP despite the many changes that its band members have gone through. "The band has recently gone through a lot of change in our personal lives, ie. becoming new parents, losing loved ones etc. Writing music is a great outlet for expressing emotion and in some ways distracting oneself," Shane Smith (bass and voice) shares. The EP's lead single "The Parent Thing" is a catchy track that clearly sings about the new phase in the band's life. It's a track of the classic formula for a good pop-rock song that bands like Fall Out Boy and Blink-182 have mastered throughout the years. The Perms, being a band formed out of a brotherhood and friendship, has mastered this sound, too but with The Aberdeen EP, they sound better that ever. [youtube id="v=SIGvGvT1EjE" width="100%" height="300px"] The Aberdeen EP is a four-track compilation that summarizes how much the band has grown throughout the years. They remain the same rock band that gave us Sofia Nights and Keeps You Up When You're Down but the horizon has expanded this time with a little more experimenting on synths and keyboards. Despite the mentioned changes, The Perms' music remains youthful and perhaps, that's what rock bands are at the core: youthful and timeless. Surely, the new EP does not take a backseat and has managed to become the band's best record yet. The Aberdeen EP drops September 8th and in line with their newest offering, The Perms is back on the road. They are up for shows in Europe and if you're planning to catch one, you may see the schedule here. "The Perms are a touring band. Meaning we love being on the road. This will mark our third european tour. We plan to play more dates in Canada and the U.S come 2014 including a return to the European festival circuit in Summer 2014," Smith says. On The Aberdeen EP, The Perms put their best foot forward.
After a busy spring writing new material, the band picked a handful of their best songs and headed into Vambo Sound Productions. The Perms' goal was simple: to put all their focus into crafting arrangements that would push their instinctive writing skills and seasoned musicianship to a whole new level. The results of their hard work are four high-energy, guitar-driven songs that feature sing-a-long melodies with an aggressive, harder-edged sound.
The Aberdeen EP is The Perms' sixth studio album. Their music has matured but still revolves around the group's melody-driven sound. Their commitment and inspiration to creating their own original music has never wavered, and their constant dedication to improve on their songwriting and musicianship skills is clearly evident with their new release.
This band truly loves what they do.
The Perms are an alt-rock trio from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The group is made up of Shane Smith (bass/vox), Chad Smith (guitar, vox), and John Huver (drums). The band formed in 1998 and has released five prior albums: Sofia Nights (2012), Keeps You Up When You're Down (2010), Better Days (2005), Clark Drive (2002) and Tight Perm (1998).
