E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
Oh God, hah. I once photoshopped a whole set of flowers wearing business suits for a pan-fandom project in which there were sentient telepathic plants who ran a shadowy agency critiquing fanfiction from beyond the fourth wall. The pictures are still being used on the relevant wiki to this day. :P
I also may have written RPF of American politicians during the 2008 election. In that it kept me going through a fairly bad period of depression, I regret nothing, but from an objective point of view that was a fucking weird thing to do.
Z: What’s a ship that you want to ship publicly, but everyone on Tumblr hates it so you keep your mouth shut about it?
Hmm. Possibly the closest to this is that everyone I saw in Sleepy Hollow fandom was jumping straight into Ichabod/Abbie after the first episode while I was going, “Wait, wait. He’s still married, y’all!” At the moment I am far more invested in the Ichabod-Abbie relationship than I am in Ichabod/Katrina (Katrina’s just not been given much to do or anything that really makes me interested in her beyond Exposition Witch), but I’m still not sure that I need them to bang. I mean, okay, Abbie should have all the wonderful sex she wants, but I’m in it for the loyalty and hugging and that rarest of TV jewels, a het non-sexual bromance. I think if Katrina weren’t there I might go to the ship place for them, though. Clearly Abbie is the heart of the show, and her relationship with Ichabod is the one being shown front and centre (though I’d say that Jenny-Abbie sisterhood comes a very close second).
So I guess it’s not that I ship Ichabod/Katrina as it is that I emotionally-ship Ichabod/Abbie but don’t need it to be a sex thing to make me happy. Maybe I’m doing this shipping thing wrong. :P
R: A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
Ooh, another of these, let’s see. I’m one of the few people who ships Kira Nerys/Kasidy Yates, I think. Certainly not the only one, as I first ran into it in a piece of fanfiction years ago, but that one fic was the only place I’ve really seen it. But they are super close in the relaunch novels, and I can easily read either or both of them as being into women, and you could do some really interesting things with the whole Emissary thing—Kas being pretty agnostic on the whole issue of whether her boyfriend/husband is space Jesus and Kira having come to believe it but also knowing The Sisko as her actual friend and boss and having some issues with how the Prophets go about things herself. Plus, it would just be super hot. :)
I: Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
I would probably have been a lot more into Sherlock (as in, actually cared to watch it at all) if not for the fan-wars between it and Elementary and between Sherlock fans and the creators of the show. Which isn’t a Tumblr-only thing, but there’s just so much drama that it doesn’t seem worth it to me. Though part of why I don’t watch is that from all I’ve heard I probably wouldn’t really enjoy Cumberbatch’s Sherlock anyway. There are a few other fandoms (Welcome To Night Vale, Pacific Rim) where I still enjoy the source material but don’t really engage with the fandom other than reblogging fanart, because DRAMA ALL THE TIME in the fandom at large. (Though not on my dash; y’all are eminently reasonable people in general. But I stay out of the tags.)
