Best of 2017 TV Shows #10: The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
Since 2007 we’ve seen the growth of one of the most unique characters ever put to TV.
Sheldon Cooper always saw himself as someone who’d never get involved with a woman, no less a group such as his heptagon of peeps.
But ever since he laid eyes on Amy Farrah Fowler everything changed. Not only in his life but the quality of the show as well.
Although this does have a human element, like this past year when faced with the possibility of another woman wanting him, Sheldon dropping everything and flying across the country to see Amy and deliver the most important three knocks of his life.
Sum 22: Sheldon and Amy’s engagement highlights an otherwise down year for the show
Season 11, Episode 1: The Proposal Proposal.
I’m honestly dying right now.
“The Proposal Proposal” Amy gives Sheldon an answer to his proposal while Howard and Bernadette struggle with some unexpected news, on the 11th season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY, Monday, Sept. 25 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT)
5x8 ~ 11x1
The Big Bang Theory: “The Proposal Proposal” Review
**PROPOSING SPOILERS BELOW**
I almost forgot that the new season was starting tonight until a co-worker, who knows I love The Big Bang Theory, asked me if I was “ready” for the premiere...how is it the end of September already?! This year has flown! At least time has passed quickly from the season finale to now, which is time for --
My Top Ten Thoughts on The Big Bang Theory Season 11, Episode 1:
10. So, we don’t have to wait long to hear Amy’s answer to Sheldon’s proposal -- a good few seconds and she says, “Yes!” I love that Penny and Leonard got to hear it too, but really Sheldon...don’t answer the call mid-proposal!
9. I love that Amy convinces Sheldon to stay around a few days more since he’s there...not going to lie, though; I really wanted some post-preposal coitus to happen! Why you tease us Shamy fans?
8. So, Raj is all bummed out that he’s alone. I can’t say I can’t relate to Raj, but I feel mostly bad for his character’s storyline...poor guy can’t catch a break! Even Stuart has a date...I am glad for that, though. I have had the vibe since last season that maybe Raj’s character is going to come out as homosexual at some point on the show. It’s not that I’m against that, BUT, I don’t want him to come out and try to pursue a relationship with Stuart, which I felt the show was moving towards at one point. If you’re going to make Raj gay, give him at least a hot guy to date. No offense, Stuart, I love you.
7. OH SNAP -- So, Bernadette is pregnant again! It’s interesting to know that her actress is pregnant in real life, which is one of the reasons the story line is going this route. Although, I really like it, though. We rarely see families on TV have a child right after another -- it’s an interesting situation for Howard and Bernadette to be in and it could lead to some fun antics.
6. HOWEVER, I am NOT cool with their ‘have kids with us’ plan for Leonard and Penny. I love Lenny as a couple because they’re having fun as a married couple and aren’t peer pressured to have kids -- until now, that is. I don’t think that’s healthy and it made me a little frustrated that the show pushes this “must have kids” agenda for couples. Why can’t Lenny just be a fun couple? Howard and Bernadette already have a kid that their new child can play with.
5. I want to point out that Sheldon went to a comic book store and bought a button-up with Superman logos...can we see Sheldon in more short-sleeve button up shirt? Even with that shirt under it...uhm, yes, please!
4. I get it -- Sheldon is still Sheldon, but his interactions with Amy’s colleagues are as cringe-worthy as ever. Come on, Sheldon, don’t be a douche. I was not happy that he hadn’t learned about his egotism from his last encounters with her friends or fellow scholars.
3. Interestingly enough, Sheldon owns up to his jealousy of Amy’s talent and intellect and “apologizes” through an Avengers’ analogy, which Amy finally accepts. Much like the proposal, I’m glad we’re moving past the drama now, so that it doesn’t bog down the show later!
2. I love that Sheldon has Stephen Hawking on speed dial not only to offer his blessing but give Sheldon relationship advice. “I’ll wait...” Man, Hawking has some sass in this episode! I love it!
1. Finally, and thankfully, we see Amy confront Nowitski, and against all expectations, she not only forgives her -- she embraces her and thanks her for proving to Sheldon who his “true love” was! I really like that -- hopefully this means the writers aren’t going to waste our time on useless Drama. Bring on the season! I want Shamy wedding planning and Baby Wolowitz #2!
