The Protest is a synthetic humanoid forged by The Martyr, one of the few Predecessors that believed humanity should not be destroyed after they had succumbed to their hubris and began waging war on themselves. The Protest had sent the asteroid intended to kill humanity back in pieces, although tightly bound with his signature gold forming. The Protest has since defended humanity as this was his sole directive since his creation.

In the many years that have since passed without intergalactic threats, The Protest attempted to understand humanity to the best of his ability, as he came into conflict with himself regarding whether his mission was correct. While briefly having a decade where he believed humanity was beyond saving, he intentionally let an meteor hit Earth that ended up being the progenitor of all Accelerated Humans, as the meteor permanently changed DNA and created a dominant gene that resulted in powers.

Although he regrets his past of giving up in humanity, he is grateful that it was only something that accelerated humans into eventually not needing him as much anymore. He is one of the few heroes in the 1TrillionHeroes database that decided to not be cloned when he was accepted into the program and was also the first hero to be put into the system.

The Protest has since taken more of a laid back approach to his heroics, but still is willing to be there for missions and is the wisest, smartest hero around.

Although never public, and was covered up by the 1TrillionHeroes agency, he had a relationship and child with Madame Midnight, who's unique magical prowess allowed them to procure a child by the name of Carol Gwen Linkbolt. Carol was never even told she had powers, and was seen as a "bullet" by the few that knew of her cause for existence. While the records show that The Protest never had a relationship with Madame Midnight, the two are very much still an item in secret.
