MS2SL - Reader's Choice

I'm back from a much needed summer long break and I'm itching to write some Everlark fanfic!

I've participated in the MS2SL fundraiser for the past 5 years. It is a worthy cause, raising money for charities supporting research for curing childhood cancer. Last year, for another fundraiser with Love in Panem, I let my readers choose which fic to finish and contribute.

I'd like to do the same thing with this year's MS2SL. Below you will find the title and summary of my three unfinished fic. YOU, the reader will choose which fic I will finish. You can message me, indicate the fic in the comments or if you reblog, your vote will count twice.

You have until August 12th to vote, after which I will get to work on finishing the fic.

The Pearl of the Antilles - Historical AU set in Saint Domingue (French Territory) in 1790, one year before the Haitian Slave Uprising. Capitaine Peeta Mellark is the incorruptible Captain of the French Army in Le Cap, Saint Domingue. Katniss Everdeen is the daughter of a wealthy French merchant and mulatta mother. After the death of her parents and the dissolution of her father’s estate, Katniss survives by becoming one of the most sought after courtesans in Le Cap. A chance encounter in a Saturday market leads to a passionate affair set against the backdrop of one of the most brutal slave uprisings in recent history.

The Sharp Edge of Memory - Even if by some miracle I did survive and he did not - if I did not follow him to the grave from desperation soon after - I would live my entire life trying to solve the puzzle of how to get him out." What would have happened on the beach during the Quarter Quell if Finnick had not interrupted them?

Heretics - Attachments lead to loss. Loss leads to suffering. Suffering leads to fear. Fear is the path to the Dark Side." But in a universe where Jedi are hunted and Good struggles to exist, it is Katniss and Peeta's uncommon connection that makes them powerful...and wanted. Based loosely on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Extended Universe.

Sharp Edge of Memory - Adopt-A-Fic Challenge

"Even if by some miracle I did survive and he did not - if I did not follow him to the grave from desperation soon after - I would live my entire life trying to solve the puzzle of how to get him out." What would have happened on the beach during the Quarter Quell if Finnick had not interrupted them? 

I started this fic many years ago and got well advanced before getting distracted by other projects. It’s ironically one of my most popular stories and I’d love to give readers a chance at a resolution. I think I just got overwhelmed by how far I thought I’d have to take this story. Whoever takes this fic can have my outline and notes to go with it, or they can just take the story line wherever they like.

MS2SL - Reader’s Choice

The results are in! It was a tight race and seemed to veer towards TPOTA at the outset, but quickly saw a surge in TSEOM votes, with some bubbling up of support for Heretics (bless you Heretics folks!). I plan to finish all of them but the winner, by two votes (because reblogs count twice and I got messages as well and even some votes on FB which was funny) is The Pearl of the Antilles!

However, because it was so damned close, I seriously reread all of TSEOM on Friday, thinking I’d be writing that fic. But a surge of messages, some waffling and mind-changing, anon votes and several recounts brought TPOTA back into the fray. However, now I have TSEOM on the brain so for those of you who wanted this fic, I will be working on an update concurrently with my work on TPOTA :).

Cross your fingers for me! It’s gonna be like Nano in August.

Thanks to everyone who voted! If anyone is interested in betaing, please let me know! Five chapters in three weeks. I’ll be doing a quick revision of the first 13 chapters also, to purge it of errors.

This is from Chapter 13 of The Sharp Edge of Memory: ***** “And would you still do anything for me?” he asks, his blue eyes blazing. “Even when I’m like this?” I’m not good with words like he is, so I simply nod, utterly speechless. He pulls me towards him, until I have to rest my hands on his shoulder to keep myself steady, trying not to give in to the sudden vertigo provoked from being so close to hm. He raises his lips to mine and kisses me. Free of ash and misery, it is filled with everything warm, solid and steady that I associate with him, as well as an unexpected heat beyond the warmth of comfort that threatens to make my knees buckle beneath me. I part my lips slightly, inviting him in, just as when we were on the beach and though the stakes are just as high, there’s no one watching us this time. The scene is almost domestic, surrounded by the warmth of cheese buns in a kitchen which, on a smaller scale, could have belonged in a bakery. Peeta tentatively accepts my invitation and I thrill in the heady taste of him. We kiss this way until the need for air causes us to pull apart. Six Sentence Sunday - WIP updates

Yuletide in Panem will publish its last story on December 25th.  Which means I can think about my WIPs for a little while :).

I have a couple of things I’ve been working on and because, I have a certain Gadge story I have to get back to writing for Winter in Panem, I’ll just make one post for my last updates of the year:

“Everything is there, Katniss. I’m not like those cases that Dr. Aguilar talks about, those people who forget and never remember anything again. There’s this...it’s like a window and I can see my memories on the other side. They’re there, all jumbled but they are waiting for me to sort them out. I want to open the window or break the glass but I can’t get to them. I don’t have the key.  And then my dreams…”

“You have dreams?” I ask, feeling more hopeful than I have in a long time.

“Yes.  I dream of a jungle. I’m fighting or I’m with you on a beach but I’m...scared all the time…”

“The Arena!  You’re dreaming about the Quarter Quell arena!” I exclaim, pulling away to frantically press the buttons that will move the disk forward, skipping the interviews, the endless commentary by the Capitol and the Game Makers. “Here!” I say as the broadcast shows the Cornucopia in the midst of a body of water and a beach that surrounds it like a pie, slices radiating out from the center. Now I know what it means but then, it was Wiress who had held the key to understanding the nature of that Arena.  I watch Peeta’s face light up in recognition.

“Tick-tock. It’s a clock,” he chants in sottovoice.

As Katniss reached the foot of the staircase and stepped toward the vestibule, she saw him standing in the doorway, the light of the morning sun framing him at his back. He wore the military uniform reserved for official ceremonies and such rites as these, that mark the major events of an island or a life.  He was stunning in his white overcoat, shirt and britches of a blue color that could not quite match his eyes but was daunting nonetheless in its vibrancy. Katniss was sure they were new.  His hat rested perfectly on his head, the longer blond curls tied with a ribbon at the nape of his neck, a fact she noted as he bowed in greeting to Johanna.  When he turned to Katniss, he froze, taking in her appearance with a reverence beyond the physical.  She saw in him a breathless affection that robbed her also of all coherence until a discreet clearing of the throat brought their attention to the present.   

Peeta stepped towards Katniss and captured her hand in his, bringing it delicately to his lips. “I did not think it was possible, but you look more beautiful than ever,” he said, his voice thick with feeling.

“And you are splendid in your military dress, Monsieur,” she answered, curtseying before him, as was customary on such days when propriety shielded the participants from the more extreme expressions of their acute emotions.  For Katniss felt anticipation like a fist of nerves at the bottom of her belly, and even Peeta, with his unflappable manners, appeared overwhelmed by the moment.  There was a glassiness to his eyes that he blinked rapidly away, as he tamed his own agitation with a deep, steadying breath.
