So today I decided to try and draw Phineas using the Shrimp Method

(I got frustrated trying to trace and skipped ahead)

(My favorite of the bunch!)

(Facing right ended up being much harder also he looks too aggressive oops)

(I should have cleaned this one up more but I also discovered that I draw his eyes too soon which is why I struggle with his head shape and also I like drawing his eye shine and his hair bigger!)

reminder to all artists out there: it's not cheating to look at references

reference images are our bread and butter.

ears are not my strong suit, but just look at what a difference even just a quick glance at a reference image makes in quality:

it isn't cheating or wrong to look at and utilize references to improve your art. in fact almost every artist will tell you that the real sure fire way to improve is to use the hell out of references.

so use 'em. and always remember The Shrimp Method.

(NOTE: Somehow, I accidentally stuck the leg's foot in the wrong direction on the pre-sketch. That's what happens when you don't have a body stuck to the leg. You lose all sense of direction. xux) Decided to give the Shrimp Method a try, and let me tell you, I'll probably use it again! It works incredibly well! Completely worth the time and effort. I should probably do this in steps for the rest of the body. I don't think I'm TERRIBLE at human anatomy, but I feel my skills definitely need some polishing. Also, I need to do feet. Badly. Shoes too, even though those aren't part of the body.

I'm practicing my animal drawing using the shrimp method. (I've already done a siamese cat and a polar bear) And I'm growing this new fascination with animal anatomy. Shoulders are so beautiful.
