The Simpsons
Improve the animation significantly. I know the ratings for the show aren’t exactly all that outstanding, but it boggles the mind that a show with such a cult following has Family Guy style stiff animation. Maybe it’s because of Greoning’s process of wanting the show to be realistic rather than indulge in cartooniness but a) most of the memorable stuff from The Simpsons have come from the cartoony nature of it and b) they’ve pretty much become more absurd as time has gone by so just let them have fluid movement for god’s sake!Stop making meta jokes/references to the old seasons...or at least improve on them. This is a bit hard to do, granted, but I’m sick of the meta references or when they do a re-tread of something from the past or when they bring up the Ullman versions, I mean god just STOP already. We get it! You used to be cool. If they are going to do it, at least be like...a bit more creative about it. Like bring back old characters if you must, but have there be more of a purpose to it. For example, it would be interesting seeing a character like Mindy coming back to Homer’s life, and him coming back to that struggle due to troubles he faces at home (maybe he had a fight with Marge or maybe there’s small things he’s noticing from her that make him question his marriage). Maybe one that involves Marge which creates a situation that jeopardizes Homer and Marge’s marriage and she’s the one that fixes it in the end. Dunno, that’s a possibility. Work on using your celebrity cameos. Nothing is more grating that seeing the celebrity cameos in the modern Simpsons. They’re just so off-putting. Really, I would say that they should just steer clear from it, but considering how the show is, that might not be a possibility. So rather, I’d just say that they stick to having them be hidden. Like don’t be “LADY GAGA IS ON THE NEW EPISODE OF THE SIMPSONS", that hasn’t been working. Instead, just go back to having them be these new, odd characters that come into the picture and have some similarities to the star in question but have something else involved. Divorce already!! Seriously. I’m dead fucking serious. Marge and Homer need to split. The kids need to be growing up. I would say that instead they should just have the show focus on other characters rather than the Simpsons since the show has gone on for so long that pretty much the side-characters have a decent amount of development to have a full focus on for an episode, Simpsons-free. But I mean that’s never happening since that’s a huge risk and even though the show could afford it (well maybe not), they’d much rather stick to the family. In that case, then they need to have them evolve. There’s only so much one can do with them at their current age and state.
Marge needs to have her breaking point, she can’t handle Homer for too long. They need to split up and create a shift in how things are going on. Have their seperation be prolonged, like have some episodes (or hell, some seasons) go by where they’re still split up. I mean they can still be like “meant for each other” in the sense that neither can replace the other (and you can surely have some comedic possibilities with suitors coming in to win their hearts) but they should also recognize the faults that can’t allow them to stick. Have Homer mature but still bumble about as he’s trying to better himself. Let the kids be teens and explore what happens to them at that point. I mean if you’re gonna keep going on, at least shift to a different stage in their lives. That way you can stay there for a while and make some possibilities there. UGH
