“We gave this character a southern accent to show that they are stupid” it’s funny cause I don’t remember reading about a Chicago space program in history class. Or a New York one, or a California one. The Space Program, the most complex and boundary pushing program of science and engineering ever undertaken, giving us things like cell phones, gps, countless medical advances, and too many things to list, that is still churning out advancements, and it was and continues to be based in ALABAMA, FLORIDA, and TEXAS
Every engineer in those old scientific videos and interviews sounds exactly like my grandfather from rural Alabama, because they WERE my grandfather and his friends and his classmates from the south. He was a NASA engineer for decades and so are his children and nieces and nephews, because SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION OF SPACE is a SOUTHERN legacy
So next time you write an idiot try cluing the audience in with their actions, not YOUR classism
