Jonathan: Oh absolutely! She's gotten the hang of things rather quickly.
Erina: *daintily hopping around* I won't lie, dear Jojo, I really miss having arms to hug you with... But it brings me great joy to see your face again.
Jonathan: *nuzzles her cheek* Well, my dearest, perhaps one day we could embrace each other once more. Dio is reluctant to give me back my body... But things are getting a bit hectic lately. Perhaps he will change his mind in time.
Erina: Or perhaps I shall be the one to change his mind! Why couldn't he just give us our bodies back, is it really that difficult?!
Jonathan: It would appear so, considering my dear brother can only bring the heads of the dead back... Hmm...
so the thing about this whole plotline with sonic and eclipse is that, while it definitely still has basis in canon, so many things are changed that it’s basically an entirely new story.
because guess what? in canon, shadow ends up going to the black comet to “take care of” the black arms problem because g.u.n. told him to. then he meets eclipse, gets mind controlled by black death, breaks free of the mind control through the power of friendship, kills black death, and destroys the rest of the black arms along with the comet. in canon, eclipse and his little dark arm eggs are the only ones who make it out of that altercation alive.
that’s not what happens in sonic doom. in sonic doom, sonic doesn’t work for g.u.n. because—surprise, surprise—he hates them. so then, how does he find out about the comet? how does he know the black arms are back? in canon, it’s top secret information that only g.u.n. is privy to.
well, the answer is actually pretty simple. eclipse gets sent down to earth FIRST, by himself, as a solo reconnaissance job. there he finds sonic, who he promptly abducts. you know, like aliens do.
that’s right, folks: sonic doom goes full on scooby doo to kick off the story.
(tbh, I think it actually makes more sense this way? since sonic is the Ultimate Threat™️ to the invasion, it makes sense that the black arms would want to take care of him first. after all, who’s to say that he won’t just ruin their whole scheme again? he did it once already with black doom... and by separating him from his allies, he should be marginally easier to deal with...)
but as we all know, eclipse doesn’t kill sonic. that’s what black death originally sent him down to earth to do, but eclipse has other ideas, and so he doesn’t. I’ve already talked at length about this point.
so... yeah. that’s how sonic finds himself aboard an alien comet, surrounded by aliens, and beginning to feel a little bit more alien himself.
Foxie: “If it bothers you so much, I can push you over too!”
Bunny: “Um... who are you?”
Erina: *uses her hair pin as a grappling hook to pull herself out of her jar*
Jonathan: *asleep in his jar, snoring, when Erina drops inside with a splash* "HNGH--Huh? Erina? What are you doing here?"
Erina: "I just missed sleeping beside you, that's all."
Jonathan: *his face squished against the glass* "I appreciate the sentiment my darling, but this jar isn't exactly big enough to fit two"
Vanilla: *opens the fridge that morning to find Erina and Jonathan smooshed together snoring* oh my. *Realizes what happened. Being the hopeless romantic he is, he decides to get them both a little present*
During breakfast
Vanilla: *places a large wrapped box on the table in front of them* For you both.
Erina: *happily hops over* oh my! A gift? For us?
Jonathan: How very thoughtful of you, my dear friend!
Vanilla: *opens the top and takes out a large fish tank* I... Saw you both were trying to rest together. So I found this would be better suited for those long nights.
Erina: Oh. My. Goodness gracious!! What a sweet young man! Oh thank you very much! *Jumps up and kisses his cheek*
Vanilla: *touches the side of his face, giving a genuine smile* No problem
Jonathan: Yes yes! I cannot thank you enough for this, Mr Ice! It will fit in the fridge won't it?
Vanilla: uhh... 😅 We can make arrangements.
