Guess who’s hyperfixating on one of the most dangerous rivers in the world?? The Bolton Strid is a portion of the River Wharfe in Yorkshire and it has a rumoured 100% mortality rate because though it looks fine on the surface, it is incredibly deceptive. It doesn’t help how it goes from wide further up to practically a bottleneck, and its unimaginable depth and strong undercurrents are enough to drag people down, especially if they think they can just easily cross what appears to be a calm, normal stream. The rocks curve inwards and are covered with slippery moss meaning you can easily fall in. Since it usually is known for having such a for definite mortality rate, stories from across the centuries are told of people going up near the river and never been seen or heard from again.
The water is also murky from peat and people would find out more about just how deep it is, but as said before, you can easily fall in and never come up back up, especially with such strong undercurrents, you can be dragged right down and not able to get back to the surface. So the depth is only left unimaginable, though it is known that those rocks either side aren’t banks, they’re overhangs. The water has clearly cut chunks out of the rock underneath and it’s clearly indicative that it’s been carving out the whole river walls and floor, which is evidence enough to think of how a living thing would fare being dragged down and hit against them.
Didn’t think such a dangerous river would be found in the UK, but yeah!! Don’t be fooled. It looks fine on the surface but it is a death sentence if you ever attempt to cross it because of how deceptively calm it looks. Since we don’t know the exact details of this river, one can only imagine how dangerous and scary it looks beneath the surface.
