Most memorable character:

This would have to be Val, introduced in Intisar Khanani’s Sunbolt. He’s a fairly unique character, and not just because he’s not human.

Most annoying character:

Annoying is too mild a word for the character I have in mind - how about downright rotten and awful? Abusive and neglectful Captain Rankin in Naomi Novik’s His Majesty’s Dragon. Interestingly, second place goes to a character in the same book who probably wasn’t written to be annoying but who absolutely grated on me with her brash manner - Captain Jane Roland. Cannot stand that she and Laurence are a couple.
