The Superdeep will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on January 4 via RLJE FIlms. Based on the real-life Kola Superdeep Borehole, the 2020 Russian sci-fi horror film is streaming exclusively on Shudder.

Arseny Syuhin makes his feature directorial debut from a script he co-wrote with Viktor Bondaryuk, Milena Radulovic, and Sergey Torchilin. Milena Radulovic, Maksim Radugin, Nikita Dyuvbanov, Vadim Demchog, and Kirill Kovbas star.

Okay so this is a spoiler for The Superdeep so don't read any further if that's still on your watch list, but the moment at the end where Anna kisses the nasty, moldy remains of Mikheev's face goodbye is like, emblematic of everything I love about body horror. It's not just about being gross and scary, it's the transgression! The emotion! The loss of self! The stubborn clinging to life in spite of the loss of self! Hit me with that metaphor for the degradation of man! Let me wallow in the spectacle of the obscene! And do it with practical effects!

Also, Anna stripping down to her body suit, putting a knife between her teeth, and dumping a bucket of ice water over her head was hot in a way that struck me as profoundly gay and no I will not elaborate
