It somehow escaped my notice that there were live tapes of the pre-Dream Syndicate band The Suspects over on Steve Wynn’s Archive.org page ... extremely cool. Featuring Wynn and Kendra Smith, this UC Davis show kicks off with a German-language rendition of “All Tomorrow’s Parties,” followed by a loose, anything-goes set. If you’ve ever wanted to hear Smith sing “Girl From Ipanema,” you’re in luck!
Steve and Kendra recently joined forces again on the West Coast during a pair of Dream Syndicate reunion shows! You can check out vids here and here ... After close to two decades away, Smith seems pretty comfortable and confident onstage. Maybe it’s a foreshadowing of a more full-fledged return?
