The hardest fucking cases are the ones where the client definitely did the crime thing but doesn’t have much criminal history, has so much working against them, is poor, has mental health issues, has comprehension issues -- and when the prosecutor says “this person deserves punishment”, the judge just fucking does it.
Some days, it doesn’t matter what I say, and that is so, so painful.
