KLAUS & REBEKAH VS CESARE & LUCREZIA BORGIA. I PART

In recent months I have been watching replies of TV Shows The Vampire Diaries (TVD) and The Originals (TO), TVD’s spin off. I realized one of hidden storylines I miss is incestuous relationship between Klaus and Rebekah, brother and sister, both ancient vampires and vampiric bloodlines progenitors. Many are indications and large subtext in two TV Show lead to realize relationship between brother and sister is incestuous. Unfortunately, Klaus and Rebekah’s relationship is never made concrete in story, there aren’t sex scenes or kisses between them. On the contrary, this storyline is left to die, in favor of normal and conventional ships such as Klaus/Caroline, Klaus/Camille and Rebekah/Marcel, in which there aren’t blood ties. Before continuing, I want to clarify a thing: in REAL life, incest DISGUSTS ME. In narrative fiction, however, if told well, brother and sister or/and cousins incest ​​and ONLY THIS may like me. On this point, we must remember one thing: Klaus and Rebekah AREN’T 100% brothers, but HALF BROTHERS, since they have only their mother Esther as a common parent. In vampiric literature and fiction in general, however, incest between brother and sister is more common than it seems, especially since, as TVD and TO remind us, one of beautiful sides of being a vampire is to free oneself and be disconnected from morality, conventions and rules human. Here are some examples: 1) In Vampire Knight manga and anime, protagonist Yuuki Cross is torn between romantic love for Kaname Kuran, her brother, a pure blood vampire and noble bloodline, to which their parents have promised her and Zero Kyriu, plebeian vampire and vampire hunter, raised with her:

3) Protagonists of horror movies The Hamilton's and The Thompsons are 5 vampire brothers, 4 males and a girl, called Darlene and she’s also Wendell, her twin, lover; 4) In role-playing game Vampire The Masquerade and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, between of family and vampire clan Giovanni’s habits, there is incest:

5) In Hemlock Grove TV Show, hybrid Roman Godfrey, partly human, partly vampire has a relationship with Letha Godfrey, his half-sister and cousin:

As for incestuous relationships between brother and sister in narrative level is long, but for vampires, I stop here. Nevertheless, none of these couples resembles Klaus and Rebekah. Incestuous brothers pair really resembles two vampires is Cesare and Lucrezia, of The Borgias, 2011 Canadian TV Show:

Big difference is in The Borgias third season, Cesare and Lucrezia physically consume their love, weaving a relationship, Klaus and Rebekah don't even kiss one another. Before moving on to parallels, however, I would like to show moments are indicative, in my opinion, of an incestuous relationship between Klaus and Rebekah: 1) Klaus's blatant jealousy for Rebekah's boyfriends and his habit of killing them or stabbing Rebekah, causing her to fall into torpor (vampire’s deep sleep) to separate her from them:

4) In TVD's 4x02 episode, disappointed by fact Klaus saved Caroline, abandoning her, Rebekah attacks Klaus, shouting, despite everything, she has always loved him and she has always been close to him:

5) In TVD 4x04 episode, Klaus and Rebekah’s battle continues and their argument between contains ambiguous sentences: "You broke my neck”

“You threw away Elena's blood so I can't make anymore hybrids”

“But, I haven't.. instead, I STAY WITH YOU and let you leach every moment of happiness from my life” (Klaus and Rebekah, 4x04, The Vampires Diaries) 6) In TVD 3x08 episode and TO 1x02, first Elena, then Hayley, openly ask Rebekah WHAT'S REALLY BETWEEN HER and KLAUS, both surprised, even when she seems to hate him, she continues to love him:

6) There are other sentences lead us to think about true nature of Klaus and Rebekah’s relationship:

A sister or cousin doesn’t respond to her brother or cousin: "I’m not your girlfriend", to limit she says "you aren’t my father" ...

No matter how jealous a brother may be, why would a boyfriend be afraid to go and look for girl he loves and, above all, why should he think she might prefer her brother to him?

Triple WOW, remember Rebekah, still human, was about to KILL her FATHER Mikael FOR KLAUS!

6) In TO 1x02 episode, Klaus tells he LOVE his sister Rebekah and, while other men come and go, HE’S CONSTANT in her life. In same episode, we learn Rebekah helped Klaus to GROW Marcel, whom he regarded as a SON. In TO 2x22 episode, Klaus asks Rebekah to stay in city and GROW his daughter Hope with him and Freya's help; 7) A perplexing narrative solution is Esther's choice, in TO 2 season, to transfer Rebekah’s soul and spirit into Camilla’s body, woman for whom Klaus and Marcel feel romantic feelings ... this isn’t first time Esther uses Rebekah to deceive Klaus. In TVD 3x20 episode, Esther enters Rebekah's body to trick Klaus and finish her plan with Alaric; 8) We cannot forget, then, Tristan, his sister Aurora and Lucien’s story, who remember Klaus/Rebekah/Marcel triangle, only with a vein of madness. Developed by Elaijah, Rebekah and Klaus, relationship between Tristan and Aurora is morbid and all-encompassing, so much so out of pure jealousy, Tristan almost tortured Lucien to death, on suspicion he was his sister's lover... only Klaus intervention, who created him, saved Lucien...

9) Watching TVD and TO we note when Klaus has to donate his blood to other vampires, he offers his wrist to women (Caroline in TVD 3x11 and 4x13, Elena in TVD 4x03), feeling pleasure when they drink. When Klaus must give his blood to men, he cuts his wrist, making blood flow in a glass, and then he pass it to victim. Only in extreme cases of life and death does Klaus offer his wrist to FAMILY men. For example, to Marcel in TO 1x22, when Marcel SAVES Hope born from witches, although he’s dying from Klaus' bite:

This is because, perhaps, as Damon explains to Elena in TVD 4x02, blood exchange between two VAMPIRES (Blood Sharing) is something PERSONAL (also sensual judging Damon and Klaus reactions when a vampire woman sucks their blood). That's why he left me puzzled to see Klaus urgently and rebelling give his wrist to Rebekah to get her back...

In questo periodo sto guardando in TV le repliche dei telefilm The Vampire Diaries (TVD) e The Originals (TO), lo spin off di TVD. Mi sono accorta così, che una delle storyline “nascoste” di cui sento la mancanza è il rapporto incestuoso tra Klaus e Rebekah, fratello e sorella, entrambi vampiri antichi e capostipiti di linee di sangue vampiriche. Molte le indicazioni e il grande sotto testo nei due telefilm che inducono i più attenti a intuire che il rapporto tra i fratello e sorella sia incestuoso. Per sfortuna, questo rapporto non è mai reso concreto nella storia, non ci sono scene di sesso o/e baci tra Klaus e Rebekah. Al contrario, questa storyline è lasciata morire, a favore di ships normali e convenzionali come Klaus/Caroline, Klaus/Camille e Rebekah/Marcel, in cui non esistono legami di sangue. Prima di proseguire, voglio chiarire una cosa: nella vita REALE, l’incesto mi DISGUSTA. Nella finzione narrativa, però, se raccontato bene, l’incesto tra fratello e sorella o/e cugini e SOLO questo può piacermi. Su tale punto, bisogna ricordare una cosa: Klaus e Rebekah NON sono fratelli al 100%, ma FRATELLASTRI, visto che hanno solo la madre Esther come genitore comune. Nella letteratura e fiction vampirica in generale, comunque, l’incesto tra fratello e sorella è più comune di quanto sembra, soprattutto perché, come ci ricordano TVD e TO, uno dei lati belli dell’essere vampiro è liberarsi ed essere slegati dalla morale, convenzioni e regole tipicamente umani. Qua qualche esempio:

1) Nel manga e anime Vampire Knight, la protagonista Yuuki Cross è divisa tra l’amore romantico per Kaname Kuran, suo fratello, vampiro di sangue puro e stirpe nobile, a cui i loro genitori l’hanno promessa in sposa e Zero Kyriu, vampiro plebeo e cacciatore di vampiri, cresciuto con lei:

2) Nel telefilm True Blood, il vampiro Eric Northman fa l’amore con Nora, sua sorella vampira;

3) Protagonisti dei film horror The Hamilton's e The Thompsons sono 5 fratelli vampiri, 4 maschi e una ragazza, chiamata Darlene che è anche l’amante di Wendell, suo gemello;

4) Nel gioco di ruolo Vampire The Masquerade e Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, tra le abitudini della famiglia e clan di vampiri Giovanni, c’è l’incesto:

5) Nel telefilm Hemlock Grove, l’ibrido Roman Godfrey, in parte umano, in parte vampiro ha una relazione con Letha Godfrey, sua sorellastra e cugina:

Per quanto riguarda le relazioni incestuose tra fratello e sorella la lista a livello narrativo è lunga, ma per i vampiri, mi fermo qua. Ciò nonostante, nessuna di queste coppie somiglia a Klaus e Rebekah. La coppia di fratelli incestuosa che davvero somiglia ai due vampiri è Cesare e Lucrezia, del telefilm canadese I Borgia, del 2011:

La grande differenza è che, nella terza stagione del telefilm, Cesare e Lucrezia consumano fisicamente il loro amore, intrecciando una relazione, Klaus e Rebekah non si scambiano nemmeno un bacio. Prima di passare ai paralleli, però, vorrei mostrare i momenti che, secondo me, sono indicativi di un rapporto incestuoso tra Klaus e Rebekah:

1) La palese GELOSIA di Klaus per i fidanzati di Rebekah e la sua abitudine a ucciderli oppure a pugnalare Rebekah, facendola cadere nel torpore (il sonno profondo di un vampiro) per separarla da loro:

2) L’abitudine di Klaus di cercare sempre, finché non la trova, la sorella e a non andare via senza di lei. Una delle domande che Klaus pone più spesso in TVD e TO è: “dov’è Rebekah?”

3) Negli episodi 3x03 di TVD e 1x03 di TO, prima Stefan poi Camille scambiano Klaus per il FIDANZATO di Rebekah e rimangono perplessi quando lui risponde di essere suo fratello:

4) Nella puntata 4x02 di TVD, delusa dal fatto che Klaus ha salvato Caroline, abbandonando lei, Rebekah aggredisce Klaus, urlando che, nonostante tutto, lei gli ha sempre voluto bene e le è sempre stata accanto:

5) Nella puntata di TVD 4x04, lo scontro prosegue e la lite tra i due fratellastri contiene frasi ambigue:

“Tu davi per scontato il mio affetto!”

“Così fanno i fratelli maggiori...”

6) Nella puntata 3x08 di TVD e 1x02 di TO, prima Elena, poi Hayley, chiedono apertamente a Rebekah COSA C’E’ DAVVERO TRA LEI e KLAUS, sorprese dal fatto che, anche quando lei sembra odiarlo, continua a voler bene a Klaus:

6) Altre frasi che inducono a pensare riguardo la vera natura del rapporto tra Klaus e Rebekah sono:

“Mi sto annoiando, voglio andarmene”

“Vattene senza di me, NON SONO LA TUA FIDANZATA”

“Sei mia sorella, il che vuol dire che devi fare quello che dico io”

Una sorella o cugina non risponde al fratello oppure cugino : “non sei il mio fidanzato”, al limite dice “non sei mio padre”...

Adesso...per quanto geloso possa essere un fratello, perché un fidanzato dovrebbe temere di andare a cercare la ragazza che ama e, soprattutto, perché dovrebbe pensare che lei possa preferire il fratello a lui?

Triplo WOW, dato che Rebekah, ancora umana, al pari di Klaus ed Elijah, stava per UCCIDERE suo PADRE Michael PER KLAUS!

6) Nella puntata 1x02 di TO, Klaus dice a Marcel di AMARE sua sorella Rebekah e che, mentre gli altri uomini vanno e vengono, LUI E’ la COSTANTE nella vita di lei. Nella stessa puntata, veniamo a sapere che Rebekah ha aiutato Klaus a CRESCERE Marcel, da lui considerato come un FIGLIO. Nella puntata 2x22 di TO, Klaus chiede a Rebekah di restare in città e CRESCERE sua figlia Hope con lui e l’aiuto di Freya;

7) Una soluzione narrativa che lascia perplessi è la scelta di Esther, nella 2 stagione di TO, di trasferire l'anima e lo spirito di Rebekah nel corpo di Camilla, la donna per cui Klaus e Marcel provano sentimenti romantici...questa non è la prima volta che Esther usa Rebekah per ingannare Klaus. Nella puntata di TVD 3x20, Esther entra nel corpo di Rebekah per ingannare Klaus e terminare il suo piano con Alaric;

8) Non possiamo dimenticare, poi, la storia di Tristan, sua sorella Aurora e Lucien, che ricordano il triangolo Klaus/Rebekah/Marcel, solo con una vena di follia. Vampirizzati da Elaijah, Rebekah e Klaus, il rapporto tra Tristan e Aurora è morboso e totalizzante, tanto che, per pura gelosia, Tristan arrivò a torturare quasi uccidere Lucien, per il sospetto che lui fosse l'amante della sorella...solo l'intervento di Klaus, che lo vampirizzò, salvò la vita a Lucien...
