UNDERMUTTS UPDATE/RANT (long)
in my notes app I’m working out the lore for the Mutts and it’s really messy rn, but I noticed that there’s a pattern with the inspiration of the story..
four undead mafia working guys (and one girl they love as family) while one of them is a secret diff species= The Gaslight District.
the main character having a crisis and desperately wants to escape and feeling like the only normal person = The Amazing Digital Circus
Blue collar workers (sorta) find a wanted giant woman and have to hide/help them even if it’s illegal = Knights Of Guinevere
setting is in hell where one character believes in redeeming sinner and when you die your form reflects on your sins/life while their souls are owned by powerful demons, one of them having secret connections to heaven?= Hazbin Hotel
OHHHH MY FUCKING GOD I SUBCONSCIOUSLY COPIED EVERY INDIE SHOW UNDER THE SUN WHAT THE FUCK.
like, ik I made number Four before Gaslight District came out but they’re literally the same character 😭. He even SOUNDS and speaks how I imagine Four would, no wonder he’s my favourite! Mel is the ‘daughter’ of the family and the mot unhinged and disobeys the father/leader, ITS LITERALLY THREE AND ONE!!
Not to mention the whole helluva boss motifs, but if it was swapped.
instead of the boss being a silly Billy who irresponsibly has relationships and spends money with employees who clean up after him, it’s a tired stressed boss pulling all the work with employees who lowkey just wanna murder anyone BUT the target.
also… One really reminds me of Robert Robertson in all the best ways.
the daddy issues? The scars? The deadpan monotone voice and snark but still gentle to those who treat him kindly? Bro.
I’m glad this year gave me so much inspiration because I do feel like the story is finally coming together, the reason I’ve been revamping The Mutts so much (sry btw) is because each of their character/personality was one you find in every narrative and I got attached.
I’ve tried making new stories with a girl that’s a maniac but all I think ab is Three..
whenever I see a skinny evil white guy I think of Two.. (holy SHIT I need to rename these guys it’s getting confusing)
I only love their characters, but not the story AROUND them. Their characters stay the same minus the designs and small backstory changes, but in the end they’re still them with the same dynamics.
I’ve been getting into hazbin hotel lately and have been obsessed over the pilot and it’s concept so I’ve taken it’s premise and made it my own.
I was gonna just rewrite/redesign it like I’ve been posting but I just.. don’t feel connected to the characters from the show. Minus a handful.
so instead I’m adding my own ocs and changing 90% of the story.
The setting is in hell, idk if I’ll add the seven deadly rings, but just make hell one big city thats a total mess. Like New York but worse because the people (sinners) are more crazy.
the Mutts are sinners (might make one of them hellborn with my own design) that each have their soul owned by the same Demon. Idk if I’ll make sinner overlords a thing, or just make hellborn/seven sins the top dogs.
the exterminations will be a thing, lute and Adam will be kept mostly because I love them but the show did them dirty.
themes of redemption are here, but it’s made very apparent that it’s pretty unrealistic and the exterminations were necessary. I never understood how the show tried to push the narrative that haven was evil since the second season showed the sinners were vile
The timeline might still be set in the 30s, 50s at most but I doubt it.
I wanna make nearly everyone less human looking and more diverse, like actual monstrous demons but nothing too complicated cuz idk how to draw monsters.
because of this, the more human looking you are in hell, the more attractive you are. The sinners down here will attach into anyone that looks like the overworld, it’s the beauty standard to not look like a monster.
there’s no more such thing as ‘super powers’ as there was before, sinners/mutts still have special abnormal kills and abilities, but nothing like before.
now, I’m still trying to figure out One’s story. In the og story there was this huge plot twist surrounding his story that I never revealed but idk if anyone will care, I told like, two friends ab it and they liked it but since it’s not canon anymore idk if I would even talk ab it haha.
he’s still the leader, at least of the mutts, and thinks everyone in hell is scum, himself include. I want him to have themes of toxic masculinity, because I’m projecting onto him.
I wanna make him the most human looking, meaning he’s seen as very attractive and a target. He hates this, so he wears large coats, intimidating fedoras, fake horns and claws in hopes to blend in and be taken seriously.
his backstory is unknown by everyone, how did he die? When did he die? What got him into hell? Why did he have a deal with their boss? Idk.
he’s the oldest of the group, not really in age but he’s been in hell the longest, no one knows how long tho since he refuses to tell.
his goal is to be freed of the deal sealing his soul and.. then what? Eternal peace? Good luck finding that in hell buddy.
his character in a nutshell = Ninah protag, Ken the Butcher, Robert Robertson, Pomni, D3rLord3, Blitzo, Ena, Stanley pines, Steven universe, Odysseus, bob belcher
he’s still the doctor/nurse of the group, is still an asshole and a maniac.
he’s themed around a centipede/cockroach, or anything gross and bug like. He was a actor back when he was alive and young, and obsessed with his looks, still is.
he snapped when he slowly lost his roles, his fame, to a younger prettier face. His last movie he starred in he played the role as the love interest doctor, and using his acting skills he snuck into the hospital the new actor was staying in and while they were under anaesthesia, cut their and his face off to swap them. He died of blood loss with a smile on his face before the police broke down the door to arrest him.
(I imagine one of the reasons his looks deteriorated so quickly was because of the toxic makeup)
this reflects on his sinner appearance!! His drama masks reflect on his two face personality, and his job on the stage. The masks (the most human and perfect part of his body) are made of ceramic and break easily compared to his stronger exoskeleton body, symbolises how important his looks were and as punishment keeps being taken away until he fixes it.
Internalised homophobia when he was alive but he’s a little more open ab it in hell, keyword, a little. He sees being gay as being weak.
also he skinned his own face so it makes sense his new face isn’t even part of him. His teeth (no lips haha) are visible thru the mouth hole, and sometimes his eyes will peek out, it’s disturbing. Whenever his masks break he shrieks and screams while covering it with his hands, hunched over. It’s his weak spot.
very tall and skinny, like, The Other Mother from Coraline skinny. Covers nearly every inch of himself, has large latex gloves to hide his claws, a large coat to hide his figure.. etc.
died somewhere between the 30s - 50s, after he died he came a worldwide sensation, mostly due to his crime before dying rather then his talent. Has some fans down in hell. I imagine he’s probably around.. 30 to 40 years old.
Why did he make a deal with the boss? Was promised his charm back for his soul, sadly, he wasn’t very specific. So he remains a bug freak BUT he can use his pheromones to tricks people into thinking he’s attractive/do what he wants, mostly uses it to get things he wants rather than sex.
Also, despite only being a fake doctor when he was alive, he got into surgery and medical practice when he got into hell. Kinda uses others as test subjects to see what he could use for himself
his character in a nutshell = Pale Guy, Other Mother, Nifty, Alastor, Mirror Man, Medic, Dr Frankenstein, the Joker, Alice Angel, king candy/turbo.
She’s one of my favs so her story is harder or me to write 😭 I’m thinking ab making her a child who died of burning at the stake for accused witchcraft and has been in hell so long she’s mentally a grown woman but cursed to be in a kids body
I feel like making the only girl character a child is weird and demeaning, also.. why would a kid be in hell? I thought ab maybe she lit her village on fire after they killed her mother the same way.
I wanna make her outfit still old timey looking but has little singes burnt off at the tips of her clothes to symbolise how she died, maybe when she’s mad she lights up like that girl from Paranoman. Actually. I just realise their story is nearly the exact same, whoops!
idk if I’ll make her witch looking, maybe a giant witch hate too big for her body with a belt that holds explosive potions that she throws. Give me ideas.
also, i had a thought that maybe at one point in hell she grew to be an overlord. This was her peak, using her innocent appearance and her experience in hell (probably been here for years by this point) she climbed the ranks.
only tun lose it all in one day to another overlord (similar to Husk and Alastor.) idk what the deal would be, being able to see her mother? I feel like she’d give up everything to just know where she is.
since she arrived in hell at such a young age (probably 9 or 10) she grew up a unstable maniac that doesn’t really understand morals. Has no empathy for any sinners she hurts since she learned everyone down here sucks. Kinda like Jax and how he dehumanises those around him to make it easier to hurt them.

I might make Four a hellborn, Or, a Frankenstein like person Two made with the dead bodies of sinners killed by angels in the extermination. Like Bread Head, who was artificially made.
Or, make him a bat guy (I got inspired by Sonar because bats are cute.)
idk why but for a while now I keep imagining replacing Four’s normal face mask with a Gimp mask? Like, the zipper goes right down the middle of the face and has two large eye holes. Idk why but I think it’s a cute look not even in a sexual way.
still wanna make him mute, though the only one who understands him is Three (their bond is still canon idc)
I imagine due to mental issues he’s.. naive. Not mentally a child or anything, but he’s not very mature either. He’s like the opposite of Three, hence why they go together so well (platonic)
I wanna make him scary and a little gross looking behind the mask, so he covers himself with what he finds, not out of malicious intent, but because he doesn’t wanna scare anyone :(
he’s still a lot like Pyro from tf2, sees the world as cupcakes and rainbows, even tho he’s in literal hell. Ignorance is bliss!
he’s also inspired a lot by Lenny from Mice and men, i read the book/movie and he reminded me of him a LOT. Especially the part where he doesn’t realise his own strength and hurts others by mistake.
is powerful enough to become an overlord, but.. never did, never even thought ab it. He was too busy skipping down he streets and smashing heads in with his bare hands. Thanks to this, he’s now the muscle of their group (he didn’t even sign a deal bros here willingly)
I imagine he died to Rabies, hence why his appearance is now bat like. Was abandoned at birth thanks to him being born intersex. (DISCLAIMER! I know next to nothing ab this topic so after this I’ll go research it) he wasn’t born in a very progressive time, probably 1910s, and his parents didn’t want to waste money on a surgery. So he grew up in a orphanage.
i feel like he goes by any pronouns, doesn’t care ab gender at all. I refer to him as a guy but you guys do whatever you want.
he has autism too, I mean, I have autism but I don’t know a lot ab it.
a lot like Thomas Hewitt/Bubba from Texas Chainsaw, seen as a freak not just because of his sex, but because he was larger and taller then kids his age, and mute.
had a pet rat he was friends with, some bullies killed it infront of him when they found it and he plundered them to death while crying out of rage. He ran off into the neighbouring woods before the nuns could come over.
grew up a stray basically, a myth, a unnamed criminal. Lived in the woods and would sneak into the city at night to look at the scenery and get food, he would run into alot of predators here and there in the alleys he scavenged in and would step in to kindly ask him to stop (bash a brick into their heads) the people that witnessed this thought report him and eventually he’d have to skip town.
hid in a cave one night and it was full of bats, one of them bit him and.. yeah. He became aggressive and crashed a party ppl were hosting in the field before an officer shot him in the head.

Also I’m probs gonna change the mutts names since the number thing wouldn’t make sense anymore, cuz they ain’t clones.
