hiii random question. do you know anything more about like, bert and quinn's mattress situation when they were sharing a room at his parents' house? was it actually just "sleeping on a pile of dirty clothes"? that's what i keep seeing and for some reason i keep thinking surely that can't be right. they must have had something else. and i thought well if anyone would know it's tumblr user homochampagne. thanks for your time 🙏
personally, i always saw the “dirty clothes” descriptor as quinn not wanting to admit they were sharing some sort of bed, as in, he was trying to paint a no homo-esque picture where quinn was sleeping on whatever his idea of a bed was, and bert was sleeping on the actual floor.
“I remember going back into the bedroom and Bert was like laying in there, you know, on some dirty clothes or something” -> we weren’t cuddled up together, i swear!!

it is true that he didn’t have a mattress, but i really doubt that they were just laying on the bare floor for a year with nothing underneath them?? but then again i have never come across any source for what they were actually sleeping on
and then there’s this photo, which shows up in the maybe memories documentary when quinn says “we shared a bedroom at my parents house” so… either 1. they eventually got a mattress and shared a real bed (the story from the two sources above took place in july 01 and this photo is from december 01 so this could be a possibility) or 2. the photo is not actually of quinn’s room
my best guess is that for the majority of that year they were sleeping on the floor but the dirty clothes thing is a bit of an exaggeration to make it seem more gross and less gay than it actually was. one of those little details i’ve always wondered about too!!
also some extra context: quinn has 3 siblings, his parents didn’t have a lot of money, and quinn did move in and out there for a while so maybe a spare room with no bed was his best option. it might not have actually been his childhood bedroom
