"looks like they Wentz their different Ways."
wait can you go more in depth about the petekey coverup post….like i agree i just like watching people explain
this ask is pretty old, and i had a drafted response to this from when it was originally asked, but my thoughts about it have changed from then to now, so I'm re-writing it. I'm also no essayist or bandom historian.
Basically the original sentiment was that some of the "evidence" used for petekey (specifically musical from but also extends to SOME of the live journal stuff) could more reasonably be attributed to the highly rocky and abusive relationship pete had been on and off again with during 2005 with Jeane.
I rescind this partially, because I think there is some serious merit to most of the common evidence used by the community and in resources such as the petekey docs (my personal bible) even I dont really believe in anything too strongly after 2007.
The emotions that originally made that post came from people spreading far fetched claims and straight up misinformation like fact on platforms like tiktok where fans, especially new fans, accept it with little to no actual research and spread it further. (like saying that songs on UNDER THE CORK TREE???? , like all of infinity on high ((with the exception of bang the doldrums)) and just about anything all the way up to mania even expanding into panic!s discography was written by pete wentz about mikey way when there's little to no evidence to back any of that up.) (yes this extends to "I'm sorry every song is about you" btw. I know its heartbreaking)
I dont think its a deliberate coverup, that was mostly comedic language, but I do think it speaks to a larger fandom behavior of how information spreads in new fandom waves like this one, and how there is a tendency to ignore or not acknowledge the, in this case, actual crimes of the people in bands we support and in favor the palatable.
Anecdotal evidence, but when I joined the fandom petekey was one of the first things I heard about, it was only months later that I stumbled upon anyone talk about anything negative about pete at all, and from what I've seen, whenever people talk about pete wentz and Jeane White's relationship, people either had no idea at all, or try to say that it didn't happen, or that the details are wrong.
Ultimately, I hold these sorts of fandom opinions like political beliefs in the sense that even if I support the ending of world hunger, my singular dissent cant change the longstanding histories and systems that make that goal damn near unobtainable.
fandom is a mass of people, and by expressing this, I cant really wish to change how anyone behaves, and I cant really try and suggest a solution either, I dont know how to balance acknowledging the wrong and still engaging with the good. I think its a personal decision everyone to make for themselves.
Never getting over the fact that my ex and I had a summer fling last year (after having already dated twice) and it was literally durring the same week as Amazing New Mexico Sunset when it started.. Like bro why was my life one big Petekey reference.
Then he ditched me for a girl. Yeowch.
So deadass when I say that Bang the Doldrums and Fourth of July were my theme songs for a hot minute.
its all orange and pink above us
”he tastes like you only sweeter”
like revenge right?
listening to bang the doldrums not because i like it but because of its historical significance
saw a short form video about rpf and the comments were all shitting on it. imma be so fr i forgot it isn’t considered normal to do that. like wdym your favourite bass players didn’t have a fling in 2005. wdym you have no visceral reaction to the word milk. wdym you don’t see catholic symbolism and think about gay priests and stigmata.
