little makes me more angry than peoples' obsession with having biological children over other parental/caregiver relationships
Indie 5-0: 5 Questions with The Values
The Values are not your average Brooklyn band. The duo consisting of Evan Zwisler and Mason Taub bring a bold and visionary element to their artistic music, that set's them apart from other contemporaries in the New York scene. Gearing up to play The Knitting Factory this weekend (Details below!) we catch up with The Values to dive a little bit deeper into their world for an exclusive edition of Indie 5-0.
1. What made you decide on the name The Values?
Mason: Ev had the idea before we even met, but I did like that you can kind of project whatever you want onto it and make meaning out of it. Plus I like the sort of old school punky feel that it has but it's so wholesome!
Evan: Yeah, I always liked the name The Values, it just seemed like an awesome, classic band name. We were kicking around a bunch of other names but I'm pretty glad we chose this one!
2. How long has the band been playing in the NYC scene; as part of other groups and also as a whole?
Mason: Evan and I played with various combinations of people for a while, but eventually it just made more sense to keep it to the two of us. We've been playing as this incarnation of the band for a little over a year now.
Evan: Pretty much!
3. How does songwriting come into play in the band; is it a collaborative effort?
Mason: We're super focused on songwriting, as obvious as that sounds. We spend pretty much every free night we have together in front of Ableton working on new things. As much as I love the adrenaline you get from playing an amazing show, I think the writing process is what I love most about what we do!
Evan: We spend most nights at home working on new music together, it's one of the benefits of working with your fiancee! Mason is such an incredible person to work with, she had such an amazing ear and I feel that recently we've been really writing super personal stuff.
4. What is your favorite part about playing live and what is your least favorite part?
Mason: I love when I'm in the zone enough (and rehearsed enough!) where I can not think too hard about the mechanics of what I'm doing and go on autopilot so I can enjoy myself, if that makes sense! I don't love the nerves of prepping for a show, and I definitely don't love loading in or out.
Evan: Without a doubt, my least favorite part of playing live is setting up. We have a pretty complicated set up and we try to set it up quickly and there are just so many things we could fuck up. There's nothing worse than having to troubleshoot everything when something goes wrong! I love making a whole room full of people move and dance, it's so fun and it makes me feel like I'm doing what I supposed to with my life.
5. Can we expect any additional shows in NYC this Winter or Spring?
Mason: Yeah! We're super focused on our upcoming show at The Knitting Factory right now, but we will be playing at Baby's Allright, City Winery, and The Bowery Electric!

The Values || Marius & Varamadras
Due to long lasting mental issues, Varamadras had borrowed Pane's Dragon Noumar, a dark-haired Solk Dragon that told him stories of the fights he and Pane had been in. The Demonlord listened quietly the whole way from HagaFosiel to the Neas forest. Lukas had advised against it, but there was no way he would not show his face around camp during this very crucial mission. Finding those children before the Knights and solving the mystery would do good their attack on WoodElvia.
He guided Noumar to land, his legs hurt from the flying, but it was better than using his Magic for it. The moment they hit the ground, Varamadras jumped off, landing without much noise. He looked around, the camp was close to empty, it was the middle of the day, to his information they were out scouting.
With his hands folded behind his back, he walked up to the biggest tent, opening the flap. He studied the room behind it, given the fact that new leads and good information in these parts were hard to come by, he was not surprised that no sign of the children had yet to be found. He trusted the forces he had send to find something eventually, but they had little to work with, and that frustrated him as well. Semiel and the Demonic Army had little time to waste especially with the weather in WoodElvia growing warmer.
'Marius, can I disturb you for a second,' he said.
