genuinely curious why do you think the twilight vampires are elves??
Before I get into this, a caveat! I have only read/skimmed the Twilight books once for each book. I read the first book when it was first released, went “meh, those are not my sort of vampires”, and ended up skimming the other books as it became apparent that Twilight was A Thing in Vampire Discourse. So my recollection of the Cullens in general is ... hazy. (And also colored by @cleolinda‘s excellent recaps.)
So! Why Auntie Jilli Refuses to Accept that The Cullens are Vampires, But Are Deeply Confused Elves, a Vague-ish Sort of List:
The sparkling. Look, I am deeply devoted to glitter, but the idea that vampires go all dazzling and diamond-skinned when they’re in sunlight? That is a step too far for me. However, the idea that elves and other members of the Fae show their true nature by an unearthly shimmer under the sun’s rays? That makes sense to me.
(I’m fine with the idea that some vampires can go out in the sun -- Dracula did! He was just bereft of his powers during daylight.)
Not eating people. I am not saying that vampires have to kill humans to survive, but I do hold fast to the idea that vampires DO need to feed off of humans.
Being strangely attractive, in an unearthly manner. Oh, you mean like a sort of glamour? That befuddles and entrances people, especially young, impressionable women?
Electing to live in a fairly remote, wooded, natural beauty sort of place.
But look, I’ll be honest: my main thought process behind this theory is “No, I refuse to accept that they’re vampires. What other supernatural creature do they share characteristics with?”
