Brisbane Hustlers strip off for Rugger Bugger fundraiser
The rugby players from the Brisbane Hustlers stripped off for their annual Rugger Bugger striptease fundraiser on Friday night.
All year, the gay and inclusive rugby union club fundraise to support their sport and their trips overseas.
One of the club’s biggest annual events is the Rugger Bugger. For six weeks, the Hustlers have been hard at work learning and rehearsing their dance moves for the big night on Friday (October 18).
Brisbane drag performer Martoya Jackson accompanied the Hustlers on stage as they took over The Wickham, delivering multiple dance numbers, stripping off and auctioning off Hustlers gear to raise money.

Crowds packed the Fortitude Valley pub on Friday night to see the rugby players put on a show.
The Hustlers told us that by the end of the night, they’d raised more than $3500 for the club.

In May this year, the Hustlers flew to Italy with Australia’s other gay and inclusive rugby clubs to compete at the biennial World Cup of gay rugby.
This year was a special one. The Hustlers presented their final pitch in their bid to bring Bingham here.
In August, International Gay Rugby confirmed the Hustlers would host the Bingham Cup and the Amanda Mark Cup in Brisbane in late August 2026.
Thousands of players and supporters from countries around the world will come to the city for the tournament.
In 2022, Bingham also introduced the Amanda Mark Cup, an inaugural event at the tournament for women’s rugby.
The Brisbane Hustlers also proudly celebrated their 20th anniversary this year.
Special thanks to Tina Eastley for the photos!

Poof Doof hosts official Big Gay Day after party in Brisbane
The Wickham and queer party pros Poof Doof have again joined forces to host the official Big Gay after party at the pub.
Big Gay Day is one of Brisbane’s biggest and best street parties. On Sunday, May 5, 2024, the pride celebration will again take over The Wickham and shut down an inner-city street to drop in a big main stage boasting an all-day lineup of musical acts, DJs, drag extravaganzas and more.
Legendary US drag queen Lady Bunny and Spice Girl Melanie C (returning to the Big Gay Day stage for a DJ set) are headlining on the Big Gay Day main stage. They’re joined by Aussie dance music group Sneaky Sound System and British DJ Tall Paul.
This year’s very camp Big Gay Day theme is The Wickham of Oz.
After the entertainment on Big Gay Day’s main stage wraps up, Poof Doof want all punters to follow the rainbow brick road upstairs at the official after party at The Wickham.
All Big Gay Day ticket holders get free entry to the after party from 9pm that night.
On the DJ decks upstairs will be Jimi The Kween, Argonaut, Richie LeStrange (all pictured above, left to right), Jesse Boyd and Galleon.
Freestyle performers Gogo Bumhole, Pisces, Asphyxia, Charlie, Zelphia Mann and Bizzi Body will also serve up roving go-go shows at the party.
Since it began in 2000, Big Gay Day has become one of Brisbane’s biggest street parties, all to raise money for local LGBTQIA+ charities.
More info and final release Big Gay Day tickets at biggayday.com.au.

Balls Out Bingo gives $4,000 boost to Brisbane Hustlers

Balls Out Bingo gives $4,000 boost to Brisbane Hustlers
The team at Balls Out Bingo have handed a generous $4,000 donation to the Brisbane Hustlers gay rugby club, weeks out from the boys’ major tournament in Europe.
Drag hostesses Candy Surprise and Hovanna Crown take Balls Out Bingo all over the place, from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and down to the Gold Coast.
On the third Sunday of each month, the pair host the very fun and cheeky – and award-winning – event at The Wickham in Fortitude Valley.
At each and every Balls Out Bingo, the Brisbane Hustlers help out Candy and Hovanna by sending along a strapping rugby ball boy who just can’t keep his clothes on each round.
In return, Balls Out Bingo donate five dollars from each bingo book sold to the Hustlers.
At the Wickham on Sunday night (April 21), Candy and the Balls Out Bingo team presented a big cheque for the $4000 raised to the Hustlers.
Candy Surprise said the entire Balls Out Bingo team are so proud to support the Hustlers.
“It would not happen without the great support we get from everyone who comes along to the Wickham once a month,” Candy said.
“We greatly appreciate it! Thanks to my amazing team at Balls OUT Bingo. We could not do it without you all.”
Brisbane Hustlers heading to Rome next month
This year is the Brisbane Hustlers gay and inclusive rugby club’s 20th anniversary.
On May 18, the Brisbane Hustlers and their interstate counterparts are heading to Italy to compete at the Bingham Cup tournament.

The Hustlers will travel to Rome for the next Bingham Cup in May. Rome beat Brisbane’s bid for hosting rights for the 11th edition of the Cup.
The Brisbane Hustlers are determined to not only bring home the Cup, but the entire event as well.
Peak body International Gay Rugby named the Brisbane Hustlers and Argentina’s Ciervos Pampas Rugby Club as the two final bidders for the 2026 Bingham Cup.
When in Rome, both rugby clubs will make their case for their Bingham Cup bids.

Walk the rainbow brick road to the Wickham
The Wickham had a big year in 2023, following the long-running Fortitude Valley pub’s multi-million dollar glow-up in the first half of the year.
The venue reopened its doors last March after extensive renovations. The major revamp included a transformed beer garden and revitalised indoor social spaces.
In April, Brisbane City Council installed a huge rainbow crossing on Alden Street outside the pub.
The painted Progress Pride flag design stretches across the width of the alongside the inner-city venue and greets punters on their way into Big Gay Day.

PlayBox comes to Brisbane celebrating QuAC's 30th Birthday!!!
This weekend a special treat is coming to Brisbane taking place at the newly renovated Wickham Hotel. Playbox: QuAC’s 30TH BIRTHDAY DANCE PARTY! Playbox, the party that has wowed Sydney partygoers three times, is taking over upstairs at the Wickham on re-opening night this Saturday.
Taking part in the celebrations of the month long Brisbane Pride Festival, it’s a chance to celebrate 30 amazing years since the Queensland AIDS Council (QuAC) started serving the LGBTIQ community back in 1984. It goes without saying that this Playbox event is all about raising much needed funds for QuAC to continue its work in the future.
The night will feature DJs Arsee, Les Smith and Frade working their magic on the turn tables, inspiring partygoers to set their young inner mischievous selves loose with a night great music, over-the-top production, lasers and sound. All this delivered by Queensland’s top team of audiovisual experts, headed by popular Brisbane favourite DJ Les Smith.
With the Wickham upstairs being transformed into a giant rumpus room with a twist of a gaming arcade, word along the grapevine is this spectacular synchronised and synergistic full colour surround laser experience should definitely not be missed.
Tickets are currently on sale and available online by clicking HERE! and if you can spare a few extra dollars please make a donation to QuAC continuing work at the checkout.
So come along this Saturday and have a play for QuAC’s 30th birthday. (oh that rhymed. Who’s a clever boy?)
Keep an eye out, I might be there slightly intoxicated taking photos… we all know how fun that can be.
