i am a slut for this trope and I dont see enough of it (even though I've written two of my own and am tempted by another).
the battle ended hours ago and no one has seen whumpee. caretaker is scouring the battlefield, wading through dead bodies in their desperate search. the environment bodes nothing bad news. terrible, awful news. maybe there'd been a regroup point they'd failed to show up at. maybe they shouldn't have been at the battle in the first place. maybe someone was supposed to have tabs on them at all times. maybe there'd been a promise to come out of this alive. at some point, by some miracle, they find whumpee alive and the relief is just as staggering as the earlier realisation that they’d been missing.
Alright, I'll be back when I am over Eddie's face in the first page of that preview, which means probably never.
this comment on the guardian has been making me snort intermittently through my lunch
