The Z3 plays Frank Zappa

Last week, I had the chance to see The Z3 tribute to Farnk Zappa. It was pretty amazing, with three amazing musicians (a self-taught guitarist, a keyboardist who went to Berklee, and a drummer completing a Ph.D. in music at Wesleyan). They played in the spirit of Frank Zappa, which meant a lot of improv, about five songs with lyrics in two hours of music, and a lot of solos. Overall, it was equal amounts amazing and hilarious. 

if they come anywhere near you and you are even slightly interested in music, go see them. You will, at the very least, be entertained.

So, my friend, Tim Palmieri, has this Zappa tribute trio thing with guitar, organ, and drums, and they have an album of a live show from Germany.

I’m going to see them this Thursday at some local club and, get this, Ed Mann, Zappa’s percussionist for years, joined the band a couple years ago, making this trio, and their name, a bit obsolete, or at least a misnomer. But I think Frank would enjoy that bit of chaos.
