Kirk hates shaving, because he's really had at it. So one day Spock sees a few little cut marks on his cheek and offers to teach Kirk how to shave properly. He doesn't pick it up well so Spock just does it for him.
I 100% headcanon that Uhura shaves her legs with a straight razor. She introduces Spock to the concept and Jim has never had smoother cheeks.
