To be fair, Lea had seen it coming – had known as soon as Leonore detoured from their usual course after their daily grocery shopping, that shit was about to hit the fan. That fact was merely solidified once Leonore all but body-slammed the garden gates open, standing in the entrance of the neighborhood’s monthly bake sale like a dark spirit re-entering its stronghold.
That doesn’t stop Lea from covering her face and groaning at nothing in particular, though.
“…I can’t believe you talked me into this.”
“Listen,” Leonore hisses, eyes darting from one stand to the next, before honing in on one particular cupcake-filled table, “We both know that Barbara, that nasty little devil incarnate, is closing in on my title as the Neighborhood’s Cake Boss– just like we both know she’s been stealing my recipes, because she’s a sneaky thief who loves watching drama unfold from behind the folds of those cheap lace curtains–”
“It’s a bake sale,” Lea deadpans, “not a competition.”
“But I’m sure as hell gonna make it one,” Leonore proclaims, before stomping forward like an armored truck about to unleash The Culinary Armageddon.
