❛ I like my women like I like my Absinthe: bitter and intoxicating. please and thank you!
Vani sat silently at the bar staring into a glass of bourbon ale. it was smoother than hops ale, and she enjoyed that. She was tired, it had been a long day on the job and she just wanted to go home.
But not without a fat goddamn envelope full of cash. So she was just waiting for her client to pay the second half so she could retreat into her apartment, take a hot shower, clean her garrote and gun, and binge a new season of something on Netflix.
He sat down next to her and she knew immediately that he was going to be difficult. He leaned his elbows on the bar, and ordered absinthe. She rolled her eyes so hard they almost fell out of her head.
She focused on her own beer and tried to ignore--
“I am nothing intimate to you,” she said. “Keep to yourself.”
“I’m just trying to make conversation.” He said, defensive.
“So make conversation with someone else.” She said. “I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Why? You hardly know me?”
“I don’t want to know you,” she said.
“That works out,” He shrugged. “It works out, i think. I like my women like i like this,” he lifted his drink. “Bitter and intoxicating.” he leaned into her and took a deep breath. “And i like you.”
she elbowed him in the throat, he recoiled, he clutched at his neck, she grabbed him by his hair and slammed his skull off the edge of the bar. he collapsed.
no one around her bothered with him.
A short, stocky woman came into the bar then. She looked at the unconscious man on the ground, at Vani, and then advanced to her directly.
“I’m not paying for that extra,” She gestured to the man.
“I wouldn’t expect you to.”
“Thank you for your service, by the way. You’ve done something great.” And the other woman handed her a thick envelope. Vani looked inside, ran a thumb over the bills, and pocketed it.
“Pleasure doing business.” Vani smiled.
“I may have more work for you in the future. How can I contact you?”
“Same way as before,” Vani walked towards the door. “Thanks again.”
