Hello! First of all I wanted to say that I love your blog! I especially love your Star Wars posts!^^ In some of your tags you said that you have tons of EU books so I was wondering if you have any recommendations? What do you consider must-reads? Anyways, thanks so much!
Oh man, I don't know if I'm the best person to ask about this haha, I've only actually read a very, very small segment of the EU. For me, I read the Young Jedi Knights books first, which are pretty smack bang in the middle of the continuity, but a good place to start off with anyway. The writing isn't...super quality (like at all), and they were definitely written for middle school age kids, but if you go in just looking for some fun Star Wars themed stories, they're super enjoyable.
Basically, the Young Jedi Knights books follow the adventures of Han and Leia's older kids (and their friends!) once they enter Luke's new Jedi Academy. They basically deal with the Dangers of the Dark Side and the Power of Friendship and What To Do If You Accidentally Chop Of Your Friend's Arm, and I at least found them to be a good entry point. But I also wouldn't recommend actually...spending money on them or anything, get them from your library or other means haha.
From there I went on to the New Jedi Order series, which still basically follows the lives of the Solo kids and those related to them as the galaxy faces a New Threat from the outside. It's basically full of heartbreak, death, tragedy and really shifty characterisation, but there are a few gems throughout it. ALTHOUGH that's like, keeping in mind that my favourite characters (Jaina and Kyp) are super disliked by a vast majority of the fandom, including the writers. Especially Kyp. No one likes Kyp. Star by Star, Traitor, and Dark Journey are some of the most solid reads in this series although I super liked the Enemy Lines duology as well.
But basically from the New Jedi Order onwards, the EU will rip your heart out and stamp all over it. It basically exists to make you cry.
I'VE HEARD THAT THE TRAWN TRILOGY IS REALLY GOOD? And also the novelisations of the prequel trilogy do an excellent job of rescuing that hot mess. But other than that, I pretty much dabble around in those really specific areas of the EU, and if I ever want to know anything else, I have a friend who basically swallowed the entire thing who helps me out.
Who, actually Nym if you see this, reblog with some recs or something if I've missed something out.
ALSO if you're into RPGs at all, I'd highly, highly recommend playing the Knights of the Old Republic games. They are legit amazing.
Like don't get me wrong, there are things about the EU that I super enjoy, but it's one of those things that i definitely love to hate/hate to love haha.
ANYWAY i hoped this helped a little! Also I'm really glad you're enjoying the blog, thank you c:
