Knights are raised in wealthy families and taught to fight with a longsword from a young age; this wasn’t the case for Bellamy. His father died fighting the grounderes in the hundred year war and his mother was executed for theft less than a year after. Working for the guard was a necessity to feed himself and his sister at first, but as he started to show promise with a sword he earned favour from the royal family. Once Clarke became Queen she raised him to the position of Captain of the Guard, the title he bears during day and night. Other than on the full moon, when he’s nowhere to be found.

Succeeding her mother, the late Abigail Griffin to the throne of Skye at the age of seventeen, Clarke became the youngest monarch in the kingdom’s history. The Queen was known to isolate herself, ignoring suitors and invitations to the other kingdoms in favour of discussing battle strategy with the head of her royal guard. Although practical to a fault, she showed a warmth her parents lacked, caring deeply for the welfare of her people even throughout wars with the groundere kingdom - eventually negotiating the infamous peace treaty.
