Thea Gregory as Christine Hobson in Episode 7: The Elusive Chauvelin 8. Lucie Mannheim as the Countess la Valliere in Episode 11: The Ambassador’s Lady 9. Elvi Hale as Jeanette in Episode 18: The Farmer’s Boy
As they did not include the character of Sir Percy’s wife, Marguerite, the Pimpernel was able to have a range of romantic encounters and friendships with women throughout the series.
However, his most common female co-star in the series, Lucie Mannheim (who was Marius Goring’s wife), was never romantically involved with Sir Percy. Over seven episodes they were enemies but eventually came to a grudging appreciation of each other.
The last episode (Episode 13: The Flower Woman) in which Lucie appeared as the Countess la Valliere was written by Marius. In this episode, they become allies in order to rescue revolutionaries and their families condemned in the September massacres. It is a very moving episode.
