In the 2016 Sherlock special, 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆, this blue Victorian gown worn by Amanda Abbington as Mary Watson was only faintly visible, covered with a capelet, and illuminated by moonlight. The series was generally known to take place in the present day, but 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆 took its cue from the original settings from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, and this gown helped to lend a touch of authenticity to the period setting. The gown later found a second life in another Steven Moffat production - the 2020 adaptation of 𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒂, where Lily Dodsworth-Evans wore it as Dorabella.
